Over 65,000 Lindens ($260 US) Raised in RFL Event in Honor of Daaneth Kivioq

On Tuesday April 19th at 6 PM, an event for Relay for Life was held in honor of Daaneth Kivioq. Sadly, Daaneth had been stricken from a stroke. The event was partially to revitalize his team, the Passionate Redheads. But mainly it was to show support for Daan.

The event was launched by Evangaline Ling of Team Relay for Hope, though it was for the Passionate Redheads, Daaneth being a top officer, and had their fundraising kiosk up. And since it was for the Redheads, it was a “Red Hair” event. So people were asked to have their avs wear red hair. Those whom were hairless from a “Bid Me Bald” event got a reprieve for the party, as long as it was red.

The location of the event was the northeast corner of the American Cancer Society sim. People teleporting in walked from the big tree in the middle of the island toward a transparent dome. And on the DJ booth and the sides of the dome were the signs “Get Well Soon Daan.” No one got numbers of how many attended, but at least a few dozen were there.

Members of the Passionate Redheads team formed the lions’ share of the attendees, including Sunweaver Estate owner Rita Mariner, Cutlass Club owner Jenni Greenfield, Club Zero Gravity owner Nydia Tungsten, a number of DJs from both, notably DJ Dusk Griswold who was playing, blogger Treminari Huet, builder and avatar designer Lomgren Smalls, and of course Redheads team captain Sabine McGettigan. Team Relay for Hope had their people their was well, notably their cheerleaders the “Cure Chasers.”

DJ Shayla provided the tunes for the first half of the event. At 7PM, DJ Dusk took over. As the music went on, people challenged one another to contribute more, “for anyone who chips in 100 Lindens, I’ll match it.” People who couldn’t make it at the start dropped by as time went on. As the end of the music approached, DJ Dusk had one last song for Daan:

So now the time has come
For both of us to live on the run

Oh yeah

Oh yeah

And knowing that you would have wanted it this way
I do believe I'm feelin' stronger every day

Yeah, yeah, yeah

After what you've meant to me

Ooh baby now
I can make it easily

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I know that we both agree

Best thing to happen to you

The best thing that happened to me

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Feelin' stronger every day
Feelin' stronger every day
Feelin' stronger every day

(You know I'm alright now)

Feelin' stronger every day
(You know I'm alright now)

The music ended at 8:01 PM, Dusk commenting, “Winamp just crashed, so guess that's a sign to end the event.” Evangeline Ling then announced, “65,250 Lindens raised tonight!!! That’s $261 US Dollars!” This was followed by cheers of “Yay!” and “Who-hooo!”

And what did Daaneth think of the event? The next day Sabine went to see him, and later told everyone on group chat, “he asked ‘Who was there?’ He cried when I told him all the names. It meant a lot to him. It meant everything. You know how he loves his friends. ... Dusk, I told him your last song. ‘ Feeling Stronger Every Day.’ I sang it to him. He loved it.” Dusk commented, “Some nights the music just seems to flow and I know just what to play. Last night was one of those nights.”

Sabine had a notecard, sent to the Redheads and presumably other RFL groups,

Dearest Relayers and Friends,

There are no words to thank you enough.

The beautiful “Get Well Daaneth” event held at the ACS Island on Tuesday night was a lovely tribute to a man who has freely given his heart to so many.

I am simply overwhelmed by the love that’s been showered upon our team during Daaneth’s illness. We are filled with gratitude for all of our friends who came to support us, and to all who contributed to the Redheads Kiosks in honor of Daan. Solidarity among the Relay for Life participants has long been a goal of ours; seeing this come to fruition was a beautiful way to honor one of our own.

I wish especially to thank Evangaline Ling and her Team, Relay for Hope, who spent many hours planning the Event; the Cure Chasers for the beautiful and artistic decorations and dance floor; and DJ Shayla and DJ Dusk for making the evening perfect with their special music for Daan.

It was, in all, an evening we’ll always remember. Thank you, thank you!

Go Relay! Go Daaneth!

With Love,

Sabine McGettigan, Captain
The Passionate Redheads Team for Relay for Life

The team wishes Daan well, and hopes he soon recovers.

Feelin' stronger every day
Feelin' stronger every day
Feelin' stronger every day

(You know I'm alright now)

Feelin' stronger every day

(You know I'm alright now)

SpUnKy’s Trick or Treat Fundraiser Festival

For twelve hours at Southern Colorado’s Enchanted forest on Saturday October 23rd, people danced away while DJs and live musicians did their music. All for the cause of helping a cancer survivor, SpUnKy Young.

The earlier press release had this to say about SpUnKy: “She's one of those rare people who is willing to go the extra mile for others, with little regard to whether such effort is good for herself. She is a Cancer Survivor who works hard to make each day count. Her medical condition has long kept her housebound. Second Life is the lifeline that has allowed her a measure of Freedom and Normalcy.”

Unfortunately for SpUnKy, her laptop had failed beyond repair, and with her other expenses she had no money for another. And so three Relay for Life teams got together, the Relay Wizards, the Relay Rockers, and the Passionate Redheads, along with T-1 Radio and the Kingdom of Avalon to organize a fundraiser event. A number of DJs and live musicians, as well as one comedian, volunteered to be part of the event. Bernice Kappler donated a box of Halloween gestures, all sales going to the charity. Marilynn Whitfield donated some profile picture services.

And at 10 AM SL time on the 23rd, the event began with DJ Monette Gaea spinning her tunes to the audience, while Daaneth Kivioq greeted arrivals, “Welcome Everyone to Trick or Treat for SpUnKy! The Intan stands have couples dances, and there is a solo dance ball above the stage to the right. The Jack-O-Lanterns scattered around are the donation kiosks, and there are boxes of Halloween Gestures for sale. All proceeds go to help SpUnKy Young, A cancer survivor, who has given so much of herself. So it's time to give back - and give SpUnKy a Treat! THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!!”

The audience themselves were part of the entertainment, many sporting Halloween looks from ghosts, to bats, to spiders, to a boned merzombie, and many more. All in the clearing of a dark spooky woods with the kiosk pumpkins scattered around. There were a few seats for those who didn’t want to dance, as well as a falling leaf globe.

As time went on, other performers appeared. At 1 PM SL time, Allesandra Eberlain sang for everyone with her soft velvet voice. At 2 PM was Phemie Alcott, whom brought a few of her fans with her, who contributed to the growing pot. At 1:19, it was over 80,000 L. By 9:30, they had broke 200,000 L. More performers arrived, at 8PM SL time a break in the music came with the arrival of Comedian/Comedienne Lauren Weyland, the female avatar with a male voice noted for his/her comedy routine, which occasionally got a tad off-color. Ay 9 PM, the music resumed with the last performer, FunkyFreddy Republic and his guitar.

As the event came to a close, so did last-minute donations. Daaneth Kivioq announced, “... we raised over $1,350 US Dollars total - over 350,000L!!” This well surpassed their goal of 250,000 L. One of FunkyFreddy’s friends commented, “(We) must have conjured up some good angels for this one, Fred.” A friend of SpUnKy spoke in her behalf, “I'd like to thank all the artists who performed, Woody, Sabine, Daaneth, Trader1 and T1 Radio, for your help and participation! and thank all of you for your donations!”
