A Tour of The Dickens Project

 By Gemma Cleanslate

It is not often I am here to get to a Nonprofit Commons meeting but I had that chance on Friday and was able to attend and also take a field trip for a tour of the Dickens Project. I was thrilled to learn that the much loved project would return this year It is always a thrilling experience to return to Victorian times and dress for that era.

This year there is a change in the entrance. Accept the experience and envelope it all. Victorian dress is not required to visit but is fun to wear if you have some. Just exploring the two regions will give you a feel for the Victorian times if you cannot get to one of the events.

Valibrarian Gregg led the tour explaining how people were able to discern clothing habits of Victorians from careful research. We visited the research center that is located in town when you visit. You can enter the area from the welcome center .

Another day I attended an event in the Opera House where members did a reading of A Christmas Carol.

I tried to get to a tour where A Christmas Carol staves ( chapters) were being read as people moved along to the various shops in town but had a crashing event. There will be more events held at the locations around the Dickens project regions until January 3. I hope to get to some of them.

This is the calendar of planned events at this time :http://irelandslstory.blogspot.com/2014/02/calendar.html

I made a stopover to my camp on Yosemite to enjoy the falling snow there. The whole region is full of snow and ice. All the waters have been frozen so skating everywhere is a pleasure. The horses don’t mind the snow so you can take a horseback ride to see everyone’s decorations.

Last week we had a gathering at the visitor’s center to enjoy a rocking chair party with delicious Irish coffee and chat with neighbors. Jadin Emerald hosted and supplied the food.

Stop by the visitor center and collect a visitor tp hud to visit all the locations offering activities and views to enjoy alone or with a friend. Skate around but watch the ducks who still hang out .

At The Relay And SL Birthday

By Gemma Cleanslate

Hi all. I have  been on an extended  “vacation” in real life. I have been on vacation also in Second Life . I set up camp in the Little Yosemite Group camping region and have been enjoying a kayak on the rivers and just relaxing there.

It is a peaceful place where I could set out some of my animals where i do not have the prim room at home, my prairie dog, my birds, some chairs and wine .

My friend came to visit and we had wine and cheese and then went over to a nearby region for dinner. It was all delightful.

I managed to get over to the RFL regions and did walk the track in the Honor Lap for survivors and caretakers. I took a few more fun laps. The installations were all lovely and I dropped in on many of them later.

My favorite region was Survivor. Darkstone Eon created it all based on the story, “The Boy,The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse” by Charlie Mackesy.  You can listen to it here if you like.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81b4i9jQhck .  Many words to think about through this children’s book, a lovely modern fable.

It was such a restful region filled with lovely foliage  with part of the track running through it. Survivors had a page in a book behind sweet statues of the boy and his companions . Each survivor had a thought on their page for readers to ponder.

After the event Darkstone was so kind to offer the survivor’s page to each person. I got mine.

I also was able to make it to greeter training for the next big event, the SL18B, with Dion Mole. Now I am greeting at the marvelous event! Get a folder ready for all the great gifts donated by builders that will be available. I think I will wait for a while to visit the Shop and Hop. It is too intense there for my laptop right now.

I have been to many of the creations on regions of the birthday event and also attended parties and some of the Meet Lindens, and the Meet the Moles, events in the auditorium. If you missed the meets check them out here .  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfIIG1TWxkc

Yosemite's Anniversary Party

By Gemma Cleanslate

I cannot believe it is a year already that Yosemite has been open for visitors.

On Sunday the first anniversary ball took place in Keao’s Crystal Ballroom. Dj Ajay Xagilia, was introduced as resident DJ. What a lovely setting for the ball. The ballroom was decorated beautifully.

The dancers glided about the floor trying not to step on the baubles on the floor. I missed seeing the creator of the ballroom who was there and left before I arrived... late .

Jadyn looked absolutely lovely in a deep blue gown with silver decor . I must say it has been a long time since I have seen her without her Yosemite backpack.

Gentle Heron was present in a lovely green gown.It was a masquerade ball and I almost forgot my mask. there was a gift of masks available .. whew!

Others wore elegant costumes . It was a fun party with good dance music. Jadyn informed us that P2P will be celebrating its 8th anniversary on July 22 and there will be another party for that event. I will look forward to that.
