Burn2 Summer Event: Circus of Fire And Fun

By Gemma Cleanslate

Time to visit a Circus! The next fun event now that the SL22B is over and only a wonderful memory is the Burn2 Burning Man Virtual Regional summer event, Conception. The theme this summer is ‘Circus of Fire and Fun’.

I stopped over to see if the Playa is ready and it sure is. Outside in the town of Gerlach all is in place.

If you are new to Second Life in town are tips to help you on moving around, getting outfits, and lots of gifts. If you are new to Burn2 there are information booths to check out that will link you to the websites that will tell you all about it. Stop and see them. Click Language help to read the 10 Principles if Burning Man in any language you choose.

The entrance itself is spectacular as are the gorgeous installations inside the gate. Those I will leave you to explore over the weekend and a few days after they will remain in place. The lamplighters will open the event at 5pm slt “Friday 25 July 2025 at 5:00PM SLT. Join the Lamplighters on a walk-on for a little tour of the Playa, ending up at the Circus Main Stage to kick off the event!” Saturday morning at 8:45am slt there will be a short parade of the event participants and again at 5:45pm slt. I recommend getting there to see the parade a little early.

I ran into Jeff Olhoeft (jolhoeft Resident) , who built the effigy that will burn Sunday at noon slt and again at 6pm slt to close the event. He was working on and testing the burn which you will have to come see for yourself. There will be parties at the stages over the weekend and notices will go out to the BurningMan2.0 group. Join the group and you will not miss the fun! There are several ways to get around the Playa once you enter the gate. Look for art car rezzers and choose one to use. I have a feeling we will have a running train. Riding a horse is always a great way tp get around.

I am a Ranger at Burn2 . You can learn more about what Rangers do by stopping over at the Ranger Station on the playa while you are visiting. Take an ice cream cone or a glass of lemonade and click the wall of our portable station to learn about us. The manual that we train by is on the table . Check that out and see our work to be able to help everyone who visits and needs information or assistance. I don’t usually dress for work like this but wanted to " feel in" the circus atmosphere.

Here is your landing point. See you on the Playa!

Burn2 Conception And The BBB SL20B Party

By Gemma Cleanslate

Besides greeting and attending a few Lab Gabs and stage parties at the SL20B, I made it to several events occurring at the Arboretum. Burn 2 held an informational meeting at the Performance stage . Each lead of the various departments explained what the department did at all the events during the year.

They also brought in their own video of past events at Deep Hole where most of the events are held .They explained the 10 Principles of Burning Man of which Burn2 is a regional member. It was most interesting to the audience and offered invites to join in at events as volunteers or creators of the installations on the Playa at Deep Hole.

The next event will be held this coming weekend .It is called Conception and is held in space! Come over to get acquainted and see all the builds and join the parties . http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-%20Deep%20Hole/137/36/24

The Belllisseria Bureau of Bureaucracy ,known as BBB , held the largest gathering that I can recall at their Space ship high over the regions of the SL20B . Both the opening party and the closing party were terrific! Above is a shot of the Back to Earth party on July 11 taken by Martina Voxel.

It was barely large enough to fit all that attended and was great fun. Frank Atisso offered tunes the certainly fit the occasion . I felt like we were on our way to Mars. Several Moles dropped in as they have been doing at many events during this past two weeks. One thing that I have enjoyed enjoyed while greeting was the variety of avatars that came in to visit and explore . I took some photos of the array that I encountered.

A Look At Burn2 Conception

By Gemma Cleanslate

What a great event the Conception event of Burn2 turned out to be . The playa was busy 24/7 with djs, shows, and roaming the builds . I took some photos of some of the events.

CHANGHIGH SISTERS FIRESHOW of Light is always a huge draw .

A large crowd arrived to see the dancers perform . Yman Juran always brings her stage with her.

Another group that provides their own staging is Angelicus. The large contingent of singers arrived  with their choir singing chorus music from  all over the world . It was a perfect show for Sunday morning.

Lunna Kiyori (Lunna Darwinian) played her set of progressive trance before a large audience of admirers . She is a well known long time DJ in Second Life . Many other DJs were at the stage over the entire event.

Here are some of the creative installation that graced the playa . They will remain there until July 17 incase you missed the event. The entrance is here.   http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-%20Deep%20Hole/172/34/24

Editor's note: Burn2's spinoff events have always been worth stopping by to me. With just one sim though, the place could be a bit packed, so I had to keep the lag in mind. What got my attention this year was that "The Man" was a woman. For the first time, the wooden effigy was a female shape. I went ahead and took a miniature wooden woman from the gift shop as a souvenir.

As someone taking part in both the Relay Weekend and the Second Life Birthday, and missing the excitement of both, Conception was a reminder that if you know where to look, the fun never stops for long here in Second Life. And for fans of the Burn, they can look forward to more fun when Burning Man takes place online later this summer, and of course the "Octoburn" in November.

Burn2 Conception: Communal Earth

By Marcel Mosswood

Burn2 Conception: Communal Earth has begun. The Deep Hole Playa is filled with various artworks involving many artists. The Lamplighters tradition has also begun. This is a tradition that makes me always return to this community through my artwork, no matter how busy I am in real life and Second Life.

At a glance, the Burn2 Conception: Communal Earth is different from the previous one, especially about the creativity of the artists, and sim settings to display the artworks.

I’ve got several words from Herbie Haven, the Event Lead:
This event theme was designed around the idea of the communal effort needed to take care of our Earth and to remind everyone what a small place it really is. Many artists and builders come here to display their work and maybe make a point. Anyone can come and build here at our events, you don’t need to be a great builder or an artist, you just need to have an idea that you want to share.

There are several events every year and each has its own theme, so they are always different, they don’t last long and are taken away between events so each event is unique and must be experienced at that time. Builders spend days maybe weeks working on their art that may only be seen for a few days and only by the visitors who show up at the event, then it`s gone. This event was designed to have the builds around in a circle and each builder was encouraged to spill some of their build-out onto the Playa “build outside of the box” and to work with their neighbor to combine bits of their build in an effort to make one giant build.

There are also some very talented artists who perform here at the events that you don’t want to miss. It`s always new and always interesting to see what people do with their imaginations and it’s a temporary installation that if missed, its missed.

You may see pictures or even videos but it`s not like the real thing in 3D. Don’t forget that if you can use advanced lighting and shadows, it`s amazing, a lot of it is designed to use light and shadows as part of the art, you will want to see it that way if possible. Come on over and see if for yourself, get involved and have fun.

And from Ilyra Chardin, the Artist’s Lead:

And here are some words from Dream Wrexan, the Lamplighters’ Fire Dancers Lead:
Burning Man 2.0 is the virtual version of the famous Burning Man in Nevada, and is the only officially recognized virtual reality regional. We host four official events each year, winter, spring, summer, and the fall event, which is the main one lasting more than a week. The Lamplighters are the keepers of the flame, and you will see them processing while lighting the lamps on the spires prior to the afternoon and evening burns on Sunday. Visitors are invited to join in their processions.

Today is not a Fire Dance - just the Lamplighters dancing. Of course, wherever you find Lamplighters you find Fire and Dancing! And everyone is welcome to join in tonight. Sunday's are strictly performances.

The event will be held on 19-21 July 2019. Click here for the complete schedule of Burn2 Conception: Communal Earth https://www.burn2.org/event-calendar/
