JAPA World Tour And Graduation

Our very own Dancerina Starlight who writes for the SL Newser invited us to a Showcase by Japa, The Foundation in Performing Arts April 30. The invitation read, “ In a fabulous spectacle combining Music, Movement, Dance and Light, JAPA Students will take you on a magical Journey to some of the countries of the word. We hope you enjoy this adventure with them! “
It was called World Tour and the backgrounds reflected that. It was delightful. Each student danced their own creative performance in a distinctive background and their choice of music.”

The audience was full and so appreciative of the entire show. Many of the dancers had friends there who cheered them after the performance. Each one put a lot of work into studying how to create dances and all the accoutrements that went with their work of art. It was very impressive and enjoyed by all
This past Sunday the participants who showcased last week had an elegant Graduation. The venue was lovely and each student was presented to the audience and thanked both K L A R K (Klark Harvy), the Director and ᴅᴇʟᴀɴᴇʏ ᴊᴇɴꜱᴏɴ (DelaneyJenson Resident) Assistant Director, who were their Principals and instructors on their journey learning the elements of Choreographing in sl.
Klark addressed the class and reminded them of commitment, deligence, reliability humility, trying their best at all different levels and offered future help when asked. He reminded them to keep quality not quantity as a goal. Delaney also spoke to the group and talked about the last three months.stressing the same values as Klark and adding” fun … laughter .tears, new journeys”. She also promised help in their future endeavors.
Each graduate addressed the Principals and talked of their dedication to helping them on their way to being dance choreographers in the second life world. They also recognized the support of their classmates in achieving all that they did.
Dancerina said, “Thank you, Principal Klark Harvy and Vice Principal Delaney Jenson for your unwavering expectations of excellence in all aspects of the JAPA Foundation in Performing Arts Program. You have taught (me) us and have done that exceedingly well. You have prepared us for walls beyond the JAPA complex, which demonstrates your commitment to dance in Second Life at-large! Thank you!
Also, thank you, ladies for being so Class of 2023(ish)! *Winks* I appreciated all the support you each provided! Congratulations to us! Yeah, we didn't learn easily!”
After the ceremony all moved outside to enjoy a party with music provided by Faith Heartsong It was a delightful event all around. It will be fun to see what the graduates do with all their new found knowledge in Second Life.

RFL Sunbeamers, Roos With A Dream, Teams Level Up After Medieval Fun Faire

May 6 was the day of the Relay for Life's Team Sunbeamer's Medieval Fun
Faire. At Caledon Downs, from 9AM to 5PM, people could take part in
activities such as archery, axe tossing, kissing booths, racing horses
over an obstacle course, and jousting. There was also a "jail and bail"
with team captain Rita Mariner as the appointed sheriff.
The event was organized by Cynthia Farshore, who only the week before had done the Sunbeamer and Roos Air Show.
There
were more than a few jokes among those showing up. Of the hatching
throwing contest, "Well, you 'axed' for it, Cuz." "Not a real problem. I
have, a 'handle' on it." Also there were a few from team "Roos With A
Dream," one commenting, "Yea we can get a little vulgar, but ya know,
when you live in a place where even the sun is trying to kill you, you
gotta learn to laugh at things."
There
was a contest at the archery shoot, with the prize being a special
bow. The winner was Nephilim Ventris.
Of the jousting tournament, several took part including Liska and
Ginger. The winner of the jousting tournament was Jeff Keith (Redshirt Zepp), getting a 1000L prize. He also won the axe throwing competition, the latter which got him a special axe as a prize. Cynthia would also tell me, "Skysong (sgudeman Resident) won the horse jump competition prize of L$1000."
As for the Jail and Bail, everyone must have been
on their best behavior as the stocks were empty that day.
Just a few minutes before 3PM, I saw a balloon floating over, It was DJ Kakya and more of the 'Roos team."We'd like to thank the Sunbeamers for letting us be part of another fun event!" one shouted after they landed. And before long, they were on stage dancing away, with those in the audience dancing as well.
The
donations soon started, "Okay, everyone, here is our first challenge
tonight. When the kiosk reaches 10,000, Roos will add 5,000." Someone
mused, "10,000 Roos? How much is that in Lindens?" There were also a few
comments about Australia being founded in part by penal colonies, one
American commenting, "Our country wasn't founded by convicts, but the
crooks are running it now."
But
the comments soon turned to the main issue, "The Roos' 'dream' is of a
world where cancer has been ended as a concerning health issue. In this
world: - the words "You have cancer" no longer strike FEAR in people's
hearts... - the treatments for cancer cause no PAIN.. - care is not
EXHAUSTING for loved ones...- and the GRIEF of losing our family and
friends before their time is a thing of the past. We’d like to enlist
your support in making this dream come true sooner rather than later so
more people will be spared the agony of dealing with cancer."
People
started chipping in. And at one point, a dragon showed up to hover.
Cynthia warned him, "Uuuhh, just a warning, your butt is right on top of
the fireworks launcher." So he landed nearby and joined in the dancing.
At one point the talk turned to a planned music video of "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" that was never made. Kalya commented, "By the way Aussie cheeseburger recipe!, get out your pens to make notes : 1 hotdog roll sliced down the middle, enough tomato to cover lengthwise, a slice of shaved ham, some onion rings, again lengthwise! 4 slices of cheddar cheese, lay that on top of the rest, salt and petter to taste, then put the cover on, put in sandwich machine and cook! ... Anyway that's the cheese burger I know." "No burger in your cheeseburger?" someone asked. "That is how its done in Oz !" the DJ responded. "Ummm, that's called a Ham and Cheese Kayla."
The donations kept coming and coming, and at one point Cynthia looked at the total, and did a fainting gesture, "Dang been in so much IM and WHAT!!!!" Shockwave responded, "Okay which one of you keeps fainting my goat?!"
As the event got closer to the end, fireworks went off, better visible with one's viewer at Midnight.
Of the kiosks around the rest of the festival grounds, the money donated into them added up to 17,570 Lindens. But the lion's share was done at the concert kiosk. A whopping amount of over 150K ended up in the stage kiosks thanks in part to the remote donations. When word got out the teams were getting close to leveling, still more came and it was enough to send them over the edge.
A total of 170,826 Linden dollars was raised between the Sunbeamers and Roos, the
Sunnies making 94,198 L and the Roos getting 76,628
Lindens. This bumped the Sunbeamers to over 750K, and making Sapphire rank,
and Roos With a Dream past a half million and into Jade.
Before leaving, one of the Roos would say, "We love doing these events with Sunbeamers and we love the support of you all just being here!"
Cynthia would later post on Discord an after-action report.
Well
as the Sunbeamer Medieval Fun Fair went, it was fun however the fair
was a little weak in attendance but did just a tad better in donations.
Together with the Roos it came out Roos gained L$76,628 and Sunbeamers
got L$94,198 for a two team total of L$170,826. Thus the Roos made Jade
and the Sunbeamers crossed the Sapphire line. oh well maybe we'll do
better next year.
Still, the event did get both teams a lot of cash. As of the writing of this article, the Sunbeamers are ninth of 173 teams on the totals page (leaving out the Sci-Fi Expo, which isn't really a team). The Roos were bumped up to number fifteen.
And this is far from the end of the Sunbeamer's efforts. There's still one more Bid Me event to donate to (more on that later), the team's participation at the Relaystock. And of course there's the Relay Weekend next month.

Patch Linden's Jail and Bail

A
lot happened this weekend at the Fantasy Faire. While a number of Jail
and Bail events take place at the Faire, they started out with the
biggest. On Friday April 21 at 1PM SL time came "The Jailing of Patch Linden."
We’re always on edge when their prey is one of the Grid Guardians,
the Speakers of the Verba Caeruleum, the few, the proud, the bold,
the…..Lindens!
Fortunately for us, the Constables know a good sport when they
see one, and that’s why one of their favorite targets is none other than
Patch Linden. And, fortunately for you, Patch knows just the kind of
goodies to bring along to buy his way out of the dog house (nope)
madhouse (nope) puppy pen (yup).
There was some funnery, Patch Linden at one point shouting, "I declare, Waffle are hereby banned forevermore!" That brought quite a reaction, "Blasphemy! HERESY!" When getting to name a region was up for auction, there were jokes about naming one "Soggy Waffle," or "Regiony McRegionface."
This is a Faire event that has to be seen to be believed!
Our tiny informants report that Patch has prepared for his bail with plenty of offerings to inspire the goodwill of Fairelanders, including but not limited to, your very own event exclusive Patch cutout to take home and cherish forever, and a completely new Patch Linden Faire Event Bear!
The
event was quickly packed. Even showing up early, the sim was full and I
couldn't get in. While a few avatars rezzed, most remained shapes for a
while. Patch Linden himself didn't even show up as a nametag until well
after I was there for a half hour, and then appeared fully in just a
few minutes. Various types of avatars would appear around him. For once,
normal humans were the minority, with multitudes of elves, fairies,
gryphons, tinies (notably the Pawlice) and dragons, some flapping nearby
the balloon gondola Patch was in, the airbag looking like the double-F
Faire logo.
People
could just donate into the kiosk near Patch, but various items were
also put up for bid in informal auctions. Patch Linden would offer, "Who wants to spend an hour with me, to go on a secret behind the scenes tour to see some things the team is working on, and you can bring 1 friend! You never know what you might see!" "An hour with Patch with a
Fantasy Faire Photo Op! what do you say folks, who wants to bid on
this?? ... We got a 15K bid folks!! Do I hear 16K?!! 20K!!" The top bid
for that would be 30,000 Linden dollars. Then came the opportunity to
name a region. That went for 20,000 Linden dollars. Then came the chance
to rename one's account. That went for 67,000 Lindens.
Then came "Auctioning off a slice of Ancient Mole to build.... yes... THE WOOTBERRY FOUNTAIN for all to enjoy and get!" It ended up sold at 26,000L "for tha pawlice to be drunk off wootberry juice for the entire faire."Then came "An hour with Patch to go on a secret behind the scenes tour to see some things the team is working on, and you can bring 1 friend!" Wildstar Beaumont got it for 65,000 Lindens "YAY!! WILDSTAR!!!!" Someone else also paid 100,000 Lindens for a "house," possibly a Linden Home.
Around
3:20 PM, it was announced, "OMG we just blew 3 MILLION LINDENS out of
the water!!! WTG Patch! WTG Warwick! WTG FAIRELANDERS!! And THAT is how
we launch opening weekend!" Someone near me went, "That's some crazy
numbers!" "Pretty sure it's a safe bet we'll beat last year's numbers."
FantasyFaire Resident would shout, "Thank you Patch! Thank you
Fairelanders! What an amazing time we just had!! And this is only day 2!
(big grin) ... Thank you Patch! Thank you for coming and being with us
all! We <3 you at the Faire!"
It was quite an event at the Fantasy Faire, with many days to come.

The Bellisseria Anniversary, PBC Autism Awareness Show, And Other Happenings On April 15 & 16

April 15 was a very busy day in Second Life. The main event was the Fourth Anniversary of Bellisseria party. For about six hours from just after 10AM to 4PM SL time at Bellisseria Fairgrounds, both locals and their friends from other areas in Second Life partied it up to celebrate the creation of this continent in Second Life.
Patch gave an opening speech at 10AM. Unfortunately, I was a bit late and missed it, and I have yet to come across a recording of it. I dropped in to see many residents dancing, human and otherwise, to a DJ's music. I didn't get a picture of him as he remained one of the handful of people my viewer just wouldn't rez.
This included the "Bell Hammies," who earlier this month set up their "Hamraiders" event at the Fairgrounds.
At 12 Noon was the Autism Awareness event at the Premier Business Center in the PBC sim.

12:00 PM SLT at the PBC Performance Hall for Dancing with Donny and The
Panda Dance Crew for Autism Awareness!
This was a family-friendly event, with numerous child avatars as performers on stage. PBC owner Jarden Alexis was there, welcoming people as they came in, "Thank you all for support of Autism Awareness. We want to personally thank each one of you for being here!" There were no donations being taken as the goal of the event was to raise awareness of the condition, which has been diagnosed more frequently in recent years, "So please make donations to the autism charities of your choice."

"Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are not yet known. Scientists believe there are multiple causes of ASD that act together to change the most common ways people develop. We still have much to learn about these causes and how they impact people with ASD."
There were free t-shirts for those who wanted them. Dancerina Starlight was there and got one.
Once the event was over, there was much applause, Jarden saying, "I want to thank the Panda Dance Crew for volunteering for this event. Panda Dance Crew, you are appreciated." Then there was a "met and greet" dance, with a DJ playing music. Several people and publications were thanked for publicizing the event, including the Newser.
At 1PM, I headed over to a live music event at Music Island in the Sorbet sim.
Merryjest (Kain Scalia) was returning to singing in Second Life after having to take a hiatus for a while, demonstrating his skill as an opera tenor. Some longtime readers may remember him for his reader submission "My Psychotic Little Friend," which still gets laughter to this day.
From 4 to 8 PM was the Affiliated Ministries' annual Easter dance in the Eternal Life sim. The event took place outside Club United's Chapel. The event was attended by multiple Christian groups.
"I still love looking around and seeing all these various Christian groups all united together and it makes me smile to see our unity in Christ!" "Its always good we come together and worship and thank our Jesus for what He has done for us!!"
On Sunday April 16 at Noon SL time, there was the Grand Opening of the Digital Dream Studios Gallery in FairChang Quebrada.
DJ Maliit opened the event from Noon to 2PM, followed by DJ Snowbuns who played until 3PM. At 4 was DJ Whisky followed by 5 with DJ Anni. The gallery itself offers both PG art, as well as adult-rated.
It was an eventful weekend with plenty of events.

"Hamraiders" at Bellisseria Fairgrounds

The Hammies of Bellisseria have installed their Zoopalooza4 .”Hamraiders The Carrot of Life” at the fairground . Arrive at the Portal and be whisked into the green wilderness for a visit. The whole build is based oh the film , Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom..
HAMRAIDERS - THE CARROT OF LIFE IS OPEN!!!
A few things to note okeeee. On your first visit to the event, please enter via the tunnel and make sure yew say YUSH to the experience at the end, to get up dere. After that you can make a LM if you don't want to keep using the tunnel.
Also please use the LM we have provided here. If you "map" the FG's you will end up at the back end, that is how it's mapped so don't do dat haha.

The Belli Hammi
The Grand Opening was back on April 1 and featured The Bellisseria Hamster (JessycaJayne Resident)as the dj with her hammie partner ,Varistentia Varriale, dancing along. The two Hammies were dressed elegantly as usual and all danced away the afternoon.
I took a walk on a quiet day to see the variety of animals on the ground and in the air. I rode the zip line over the build and got a good look at everything.
There is charming camp area where one can rest and enjoy the snacks set out. Sitting by the campfire I was able to spy the colorful birds over head and enjoy the solitude for a bit. As you walk you will see the statues of frightening looking creatures adorn the area near the temple. Fortunately I found no
doom but did not look hard.

FrannyDJ's Memorial Parade

It was a busy Sunday for me attending two gathering but ending with a shock. For the VWBPE and the Burn2 events I turned off all my notifications from groups. I started to restore some during the week but evidently got distracted and forgot to finish. Sunday afternoon while over at the Bellisseria Hammie’s party I had an im from my friend, Melvin Starbrook, ”Come to the parade.” My answer,” what parade? .
I was shocked when she answered “the memorial for Frannydj” and passed a notecard.
“It is with great sadness to inform everyone that FrannyDj Dean transitioned from this world on February 21st. 2023. She contracted covid while in the hospital.”
You recall I always covered Frannydj’s marvelous parades and Woodstock. I did cover the 22 Macy’s parade and the Christmas on tour. We talked at the Christmas parade and I tried to reach her at the end of January to ask about Mardi Gras but had no answer and now I know why.
I missed most of the Celebration of Life but did get over to the parade as soon as I heard from Melvin.
Thanks to her dear friends who held the memorial for her. They are hoping to continue the parades into the future.
In real life she was an artist and musician. In her profile she says,
“I am Every woman… My world is filled with love, passion and friendship. Life is not about skirting around the storms, it is about learning to dance in the rain..If you can not love and forgive me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best..…” and “SOMETIMES....we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out how we feel, stop deciding with our minds what we want our hearts to feel, and just go with "whatever happens, happens". Just enjoy the ride and count your blessings ♥♥ ”
and she did.
She and her parades and parties on the steamship will be sorely missed. I actually changed to the outfit I wore at the first Woodstock I attended back in 2018 to end the evening on the steamship after the parade.
There are many who will hold you in their rl and sl memories. I will remember hopping on those wonderful floats and dancing down 5th avenue by Macy’s and running in to see Santa , or arriving on Bourbon St in New Orleans. I hopped on many of the 100 floats or balloons or stopped by the circus nearby or walked the quiet streets of stately homes and enjoyed it all every year.
I would also find this video of when FrannyDJ was interviewed on Feb 11 2016, seven years ago.
Rest in that knowledge Franny. We won’t forget. You can see her Memorial here for the next two weeks.
