Pillory A Linden (Or Mole)

By Bixyl Shuftan

On Friday September 22, the Second Life Renaissance Festival began. This is a yearly event held to benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, an annual fundraiser to help the American Cancer Society which focuses on breast cancer. Until Sunday October 1, there will be three sims and many days of various happenings, such as dances with DJs playing music, roleplays, silent auctions and raffles, lots of shopping, and plenty of scenery and people dressing up in Medieval and Renaissance outfits.

The Lindens an Moles have also gotten into the act, happy to lend a hand, or paw in the case of the furries and tinies among them. In the past, they've done events such as "Joust A Linden." This year, their event was "Pillory A Linden (or Mole)."

The Lindens & Moles have  escaped the castle guards who chased them down the country side and have arrived safely at the SL Renaissance Festival.  However, they had a few, shall we say, “incidents” along the way whilst visiting the village taverns and partaking in  local merriment. Some, more so than others it appears. Reports of table dancing, chandelier swinging and loud singing in the streets in the wee hours have reached the Festival Queen

They must be held accountable for their loud and rambunctious behavior and have been ordered to the pillory by the Festival Queen.

By  Royal Decree, Second Life Residents are to be the judges!  What crew do you think deserves to be in the Pillory?

Voting is by L$ donation to the kiosk beside the team you want to save from being locked in the pillory.

In true Pillory style, rotten vegetables will be provided for all to throw.

Lindens & Moles will be live at the Pillory ... trying to proclaim their innocence! Don’t be fooled!  Don’t let them bribe you!

Nuala Maracas would state, "Reports have been received that the Linden Delegation has lost its way and journeyed far to the lands in the north where they have come across a mysterious and valuable treasure, which they have taken with them to RenFest.  The treasure was found outside a castle, apparently the housekeepers were doing a through castle cleaning and set the treasure outside to 'air out'. The castle guards are now in hot pursuit of the Lindens and Moles.

Some, more so than others it appears. Reports of table dancing, chandelier swinging and loud singing in the streets in the wee hours have reached the Festival Queen."

There were quite a few people there, so some avatars were gray to me for a while. There were also plenty of Lindens and Moles there, standing out with their blue nametags and blue dots on the minimap. For the event, they were originally going to be split into five teams, led by Derrick Linden the tiny Dragon, Itsa Mole, Alota Mole, Chronos Mole, and Patch Linden himself. But there would be only three at the event, including Patch's Team One.

There was no shortage of people around in period clothing.

Patch Linden was there, in a green sweater and white shorts.

Both Gemma Cleanslate and I were there for the event. I was wearing my outfit from the Fairelands Quest in the Fantasy Faire of 2018.

There were four kinds of rotten food to toss at those in the pillory. Xia Xevious would comment, "That's why I don't eat those rotten foods.  Crew 2 do have fresh food there. And CLEAN water."

Anna Mole as a small robot in a princess hat.

Avariel Falcon, the Relay's dark unicorn, was among the crowd.

Star Mole in a flowery dress.

Someone in the audience threw up some fireworks at one point.

Grumpy Mole, or was it Chronos, was sitting on a throne at one point.

As time went on, people donated to kiosks representing the five groups of Lindens and Moles. Relayer Nuala Maracas would occasionally shout to encourage it, "Your donation helps us with supporting those with Breast Cancer.     Through a secure mobile app, The American Cancer Society  connects 2,900 women facing breast cancer with trained breast cancer survivors to support them during their journey – anywhere in the country."

People would root for various teams and make various comments. Xia Xevious: "That is true. I"m animal lover but I'm torn between you and Mini.  You know who got my attention all the time?  Mini of course. :P DONATE TO CREW TWO!" Liz Wilner: "does anyone honestly want to see the Jester be in a stockade?  This only makes for a sad Jester...which makes for no fun." Eladrin Nightshade (squidpaladin Resident): "The poor Jester DESPAIRED at the sight of the stocks earlier." Jibble Pizzaro: "Everyone donate so each kiosk is even so they all PAY THE PRICE!" SLRenaissanceFestival Resident shouts: "There ya go !!!  lock them all up!" Eladrin Nightshade (squidpaladin Resident): "Actually that I could get behind. Get them all!"

The Lindens and Moles would join in the talk, Jester Molesaying, "Dont make a sad Jester! donate to crew 1!" Patch would muse, appealing to the tinies, "Team 2 is responsible for the wootberry fountain being delayed.  Vote for team 1 to get it back on track!" Xia Xevious grinned, "I knew it was Patch's fault. Stick to Crew 2!" Mini Mole blinked, then spoke,  "It was us!" Then she wavered, " Wasn't yes that was WAS NOT!" Brigantia Mole: "WOOOT for team ONE!!.  Vote Team One and Spare the ... kitty!" Liz Wilner blurted, "Wootberry...delayed?  Dinkies and Tinies unite!  vote Team 1!"

As time went on, the donations came in. SLRenaissanceFestival Resident announced, "Team 1 L$42,383      Team 2 $19,893   Team 3  L$24,700   ..  18 minutes remain." Eladrin Nightshade (squidpaladin Resident): "Oh heavens. Thats a BIG jump for Team 1!" Xia Xevious: Donate to CREW two!  They have fresh clean water and food here. And kill the lag real quick." Then she noticed something and laughed, "Who donated huge to that ridiculous Team 1?" Patch Linden mused, "Team 2 is responsible for the spoiling of the Ye Olde Waffle Syrup!   Luckily Team 1 saved some and can provide you with all the waffles!" Icer Shimmerscale (Icer Oakleaf) cried out, "Not the syrup!" Xia Xevious: "Team 1 cost you the LAGGEST to the core.. Donate to Crew 2!" Jibble Pizzaro asked, "Which team makes the best casinos?" Patch answered, "Team 2 made the casino!!!  That's all I'm going to say!"

Wendi Linden tried to take advantage of the One vs Two banter, "While team one and team two attack each other, donate to the team that support you - Team Three!"  Kitty (Prettykitty Gumbo) seemingly bought it, "I shall donate to team 3." Eirynne (Eirynne Sieyes) was saying, "Wow Team one way ahead!" Then heading about the last donation, "Noooo they keep the lag away!" Liz Wilner: "I insist that Jesters remain happy...or they give a very poor juggling performance...and they don't dance right...vote Team 1!" Eirynne (Eirynne Sieyes): "Team 1 makes lag by keeping us here all day. And night!" Patch Linden mused, "Mirror Mirror on the wall....  who has the highest ARC of us all????" After a pause, " You don't say...    Magic mirror proclaims it is those who make up Team 2!    So vote for team 1 instead!" Xia Xevious responded, "The mirror broke when you look at that mirror?  that's Team 1.  Donate to Crew two!"

Brigantia Mole did a cheer, "Team Two, Team Two, you're so great, You're always there to collaborate. With your teamwork and your might, You'll win every day and night. Team One, Team One, you're number one, You're the best, second to none. With your leadership and your grace, You'll always take first place." SLRenaissanceFestival Resident announced the updated totals, "Team 1  42,583      Team 2 20,100    Team 3   45,200" Then stated "Our Pillory guard is up on the top .... ready and waiting to lock them in !" Mini Mole wipes a tear from her cheek, "Yes, please save Crew Two.  The pillory is a cruel thing. Vote Crew Two!"

As it got to a few minutes to the deadline, SLRenaissanceFestival was updating more, "$44,350 team 2 ... $46,350, $3,000 away from being safe. 2 minute. $50,000 team 3 ... $48, 150 team 2 ... $53,150 team 2. ... $69,150 team 2 ... $55,000 team 3 ,,, $65,000 team 3 ,,, $75,000 team 3"

Finally the time ran out and the final totals were announced, "Team `1  $104,690     Team 2   $76,500     Team 3  $76, 100  FINAL TOTALS!" Then came the results, "TEAM 3 IS LOCKED UP!" And so the Lindens and Moles of Team Three, Itsa, Milli, Chronos, Binky, and Alota Mole, and Derrick, Wendi, and Vix Linden would be in a one-sided food-fight, "Let them get in the pillory and grab your tomoatoes. Grab your tomatoes in the crates on the sides" Someone commented, "Tomatoes sounds like a griefer attack."

And the rotten food started flying, "(laughter) You all are hitting those poor folks pretty hard!" Much of it seemed aimed at the dragon, "So many hitting Derrick."

One resident went, "This is terrible. I can't watch." Another spoke, "Poor people, I can't do it." But Mini Mole stood behind Patch, getting ready to throw a tomato, "Better duck, Patch. I'm a terrible shot." For some reason, the radio stream started playing "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton.

At one point, there was a fire in front of the pillory. Maybe the dragon had enough.

At one point, some long white length of slide appeared.

And some lights.

Hobbes Linden showed up only after the totals were rang, "I'm sad I missed all the fun, but hello to peoples, thank you for saving Team one and if anyone wants a very late Linden Bear bribe, just let me know."

Kitty (Prettykitty Gumbo) threw a fresh apple to Avariel, and the unicorn went "Yay, apple!" and started eating it. Hobbes then commented, "I dunno, if people are throwing fresh food maybe I'll hop up there even though my team is safe."

Patch Linden was the subject of a couple pranks. Hobbes Linden tossed something at Patch, "I may have risked my very existence...but I have fruited Patch. Haha!" At one point, someone yelled out, "A bad Scottish accent shouts: PATCH LINDEN! MARY LAYTON HAS BESTOWED UPON YE THE GIFT OF THE HAGGI!" And then a number of odd brownish critters started circling around the mouse-eared Linden.

Eventually, the Lindens and Moles in the pillory were let go (and presumably offered a bath and change of clothes). It was then time for the next event, the Parade of Nights.

Patch Linden would be part of the parade, near the front. Later on, Gem Sunkiller would DJ at the Minstrel's Corner stage.

Nuala Maracas shouted, "Huge thank you to the Lindens and Moles for their support in the fight against breast cancer! Thank you, thank you! You are such good sports." Another resident spoke with a smile, "Thank you Lindens and Moles! We tease, but we do love you!" Kitty added, "Yes, we do love you all." Xia Xevious threw in, "Indeed!  Thank you guys very much!!!" A fourth spoke, "You raised a lot of money thanks to you all hugs lindens and moles you all are amazing."

It should be noted that there's still plenty to see and do at the Renaissance Festival. There's the music events, there are the archery and melee tournaments, there are the silent auctions for things like free Premium Plus and name changes that are open until Saturday September 30, and plenty of shopping.

"Thank you again to all the Lindens and Moles !   Another successful year !    (try to stay out of trouble next year )"

Greeting At The SL20B

By Gemma Cleanslate

Slbd anl.. 013 - *

My SL life was interrupted by the SL20B since I am a greeter on the Regions and spend lots of time helping visitors and orienting them to the events and activities going on all over the 22 regions. I spend a lot of time at the Welcome centers in Awesome and Magnificent where most of the new visitors arrive for the first time. Here is located the vendor for both the Global and National sweepstakes which keeps people coming back daily to enter . The car which is the prize for the National sweeps is on display with Patch Linden replica standing by. Teleports to all the stages, important landing points and regions are  located here so it is a busy place. I have seen most of you here too!

Slb anl 005 - *

Several days I greeted as a dinkie and offered some help on the Hunt that was going on too. This year there were 5 prizes located at the main areas but the hints on the hud were hard ! Hints were talked about in the SL20B group chat and many completed it after a while. I made time to go do it and collected the prizes.

After a few days I was able to visit stages to greet there and offer information. My first trip took me to

the Mandala Stage where Tia Rungray(Tialer Mimulus) whose ethereal live music I first heard at last year was performing. His music is so enchanting and and is enhanced with reflections by Violet Boa.

The stage build is beautiful and held many performances and dj parties during the Music Fest and on into the week .

I was able to get to several of the lab Gabs where Strawberry Linden interviewed Patch Linden . He gave us information that Bixyl has been reporting on .

Other lab Gabs followed every day with more information on how the Lab works in different departments ending on Friday with a gathering of all the Moles who supply our infrastructure on the grid. They are busier than a colony of ants! All the talks are here is you missed them. Strawberry (above ) did a wonderful job asking resident ‘s questions for us.

I have a few more events to tell you about in another article.

Below are some photos from the regions that I visited during my tour.

Patch Linden's Jail and Bail

 By Bixyl Shuftan

A lot happened this weekend at the Fantasy Faire. While a number of Jail and Bail events take place at the Faire, they started out with the biggest. On Friday April 21 at 1PM SL time came "The Jailing of Patch Linden."

We’re always on edge when their prey is one of the Grid Guardians, the Speakers of the Verba Caeruleum, the few, the proud, the bold, the…..Lindens!

Fortunately for us, the Constables know a good sport when they see one, and that’s why one of their favorite targets is none other than Patch Linden. And, fortunately for you, Patch knows just the kind of goodies to bring along to buy his way out of the dog house (nope) madhouse (nope) puppy pen (yup).

This is a Faire event that has to be seen to be believed!

Our tiny informants report that Patch has prepared for his bail with plenty of offerings to inspire the goodwill of Fairelanders, including but not limited to, your very own event exclusive Patch cutout to take home and cherish forever, and a completely new Patch Linden Faire Event Bear!

The event was quickly packed. Even showing up early, the sim was full and I couldn't get in. While a few avatars rezzed, most remained shapes for a while. Patch Linden himself didn't even show up as a nametag until well after I was there for a half hour, and then appeared fully in just a few minutes. Various types of avatars would appear around him. For once, normal humans were the minority, with multitudes of elves, fairies, gryphons, tinies (notably the Pawlice) and dragons, some flapping nearby the balloon gondola Patch was in, the airbag looking like the double-F Faire logo.

People could just donate into the kiosk near Patch, but various items were also put up for bid in informal auctions. Patch Linden would offer, "Who wants to spend an hour with me, to go on a secret behind the scenes tour to see some things the team is working on, and you can bring 1 friend!    You never know what you might see!" "An hour with Patch with a Fantasy Faire Photo Op! what do you say folks, who wants to bid on this?? ... We got a 15K bid folks!! Do I hear 16K?!! 20K!!" The top bid for that would be 30,000 Linden dollars. Then came the opportunity to name a region. That went for 20,000 Linden dollars. Then came the chance to rename one's account. That went for 67,000 Lindens.

Then came "Auctioning off a slice of Ancient Mole to build.... yes...  THE WOOTBERRY FOUNTAIN for all to enjoy and get!" It ended up sold at 26,000L "for tha pawlice to be drunk off wootberry juice for the entire faire."Then came "An hour with Patch to go on a secret behind the scenes tour to see some things the team is working on, and you can bring 1 friend!" Wildstar Beaumont got it for 65,000 Lindens "YAY!! WILDSTAR!!!!" Someone else also paid 100,000 Lindens for a "house," possibly a Linden Home.

There was some funnery,  Patch Linden at one point shouting, "I declare, Waffle are hereby banned forevermore!" That brought quite a reaction, "Blasphemy! HERESY!" When getting to name a region was up for auction, there were jokes about naming one "Soggy Waffle," or "Regiony McRegionface."

Around 3:20 PM, it was announced, "OMG we just blew 3 MILLION LINDENS out of the water!!! WTG Patch! WTG Warwick! WTG FAIRELANDERS!! And THAT is how we launch opening weekend!" Someone near me went, "That's some crazy numbers!" "Pretty sure it's a safe bet we'll beat last year's numbers." FantasyFaire Resident would shout, "Thank you Patch! Thank you Fairelanders! What an amazing time we just had!! And this is only day 2! (big grin) ... Thank you Patch! Thank you for coming and being with us all! We <3 you at the Faire!"

It was quite an event at the Fantasy Faire, with many days to come.

The "Love Train" And "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden/Spank A Linden"

By Bixyl Shuftan

February 14 was Valentines Day, an unofficial holiday for love and romance. Many places such as clubs had Valentine-themed events. Linden Lab would have two that day, the "Love Train" and "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden."

On Tuesday, February 14 starting at 12pm SLT, join us on the Love Train!

The Moles will be running trolleys all along the Eastern Loop of the Bellisseria Railway. The primary departure point is Muehlenbach Station, but residents can hop on from any station as the trolleys go by. The trolleys will run in both directions along the route, stopping in Allrutti Station just outside of Newbank for residents to disembark.

So on February 14 at just before Noon, I tried hopping over. But there was a slight snag. The region was full. Me and a few others were looking at the station from the outside.

With so many residents, many took a while to fully rezz, "Am I the only one who sees everyone on the train station as naked?""Half of em are nakey for me." "Well, they are sort of half rezzed, half transparent and generally a mess. Not a pretty sight, despite them being naked." "So you're saying I could get naked, and people wouldn't know if I was being debauched or just not rezzing properly?"

Being a Linden or Mole didn't always help you be seen.

But as time went on, people started to rezz, including Zady Bury, noted for her "Drivers of SL" videos.

Kristen Linden was looking a little "metal."

Eventually, a trolley showed up, and people started getting on.

Someone else rezzed a small locomotive and flat railcar.

A friend called me over to check something, and coming back I was able to get in the sim.

And onto the train station. Adora Mole would tell people, "... hop on. This is the last train of the day."

One guy chuckled, "You guys should totally come put a train on my sim (laugh) This is cool."

I got a seat next to Wendi Linden.

But as the train went through a sim crossing, well, not even Lindens are immune to hiccups, and Wendi got knocked off.

So did Adora Mole.

Others got knocked off as well. Somehow, I stayed on. Those knocked off soon got back on.

I would end up sitting between Lulabell Linden and Adora, the rodentlike tiny Mole sporting a chainsaw. Watch out! Adora Mole just yanked the starter on her chainsaw. I asked what was with that, "Too many 'the lag is so thick, you can cut it' jokes?" Someone saw it only when I pointed it out, "I had to get out of mouselook to check out the chainsaw, hahahah!"

Adora would then change seats, onto the one next to the brake, and putting her woodcutter/weapon from hell away, "I put it away.. I can't drive and hold on to it. Want me to try? ... Soooo.. you all want this to be a Love Train or a Love train of TERROR??!!" She got her chainsaw out again. My response was to muse, " I recall cows used to be a problem blocking trains. Is that what the saw is for? Getting rid of cows on the tracks and free beef?" "Yes... and hamburgers served afterward."

Sparkling Mole ended up on top of the train.

One guy had wrestler's championship belt and a boquet of roses. I figured he was either someone was going to his sweetheart after a match, or got something off Marketplace to look impressive. He would later say he was a wrestler at at Vitality arena.

The train continued on.

At one point, Adora had some trouble, "I can't figure out how to NOT sit on Kris' lap! (laugh) Stopping the train for a moment... going to try to get  off the passenger's lap (grin)."

Our trip took us through a tunnel. With our trip taking us below water level, Adora mused, "just make sure you return all towels and snorkels at the end of the ride."

And out.

We passed an area where the Linden Homes were still in development.

Going through a marshy area.

And finally, the trip was over, with everyone getting off. Grumpity Linden was there, "So sad, it ditched me at the station!" Adora would comment, "I didn't have to cut anyone up with my chainsaw!! It's a good day! ... Hope everyone enjoyed the ride!"

Next, it was onto the Isle of View, for "Hug A Linden/Dunk A Linden."

Gemma Cleanslate was there.

So was Serenity Kitty.

And so was the mouse mole Squeaky Mole.

Zada Bury was here as well, along with many Lindens and Moles.

 Including Patch Linden.

Someone was wondering why Cupid Linden wasn't getting hugs. So I gave her one.

Besides hugging Lindens and Moles, one could dunk them.

Adora Mole was among voulentering to take a bath.

"Nuuuuuuuuuuu....."

Someone appeared as a chocobo from "Final Fantasy 7."

Grumpy Mole was there.

Patch was more than happy to chat with the residents.

Then at one point, I heard a *SMACK* noise. Looking around, I saw Patch on the ground, but only for a couple seconds. He'd been talked into putting on a spanker, and someone swatted him.

Fortunately, I didn't have to wait long before it happened again. Others were slapping him in the behind as well. Even one of the Moles got into the act.

I eventually had the chance to try out the dunking booth, when Abnor Mole was seated there.

Grumpity Linden also took a try.

 And got her bath.

Cosmic Mole was there too.

And joined the ranks of the damp.

Ran into Pantera Polnocy there as well.

It was a fun "Hug and Dunk A Linden." Though thanks to Patch's going "above and beyond the call of duty," it became known as "Hug, Dunk, and Spank A Linden."

Zada Bury would do a video of the two events, including Patch Linden's deriere getting a smacking.

Happy Valentines Day
