Scenes From The FCA "Christmas in July" Club Crawl

 

Saturday July 24 2021 was the day of the Furry Club Alliance (FCA) summertime club crawl. The FCA is made up of several clubs, numbering six at the time of this article, which support one another a little through some cross-promotion and in the case of the Sunweaver clubs that make up most of the members to prevent (or at least cut down on) schedule conflicts as they have much the same audience. 

The theme was "Christmas in July," which was felt would be a "cool" theme in these warm times. Things started out at Club Zero Gravity at Noon SL time. And the club had been colored a bit for the occasion with much red and green. The space-themed club is high above the Sunweaver Space sim at (129, 249, 3597).

The people who came in had all sorts of Christmasy looks.

DJ Lexi played the tunes for the two hour's of Zero-G's part of the event.

The contest was won by LiskaBystrouska Resident and, Dusk Griswold. 

At 2PM, the crowd went over to the newest club in the Sunweaver community, the Bouncing Bunny Beach Club.

The club came about in November last year, and has done far better than the hangout that came to an end shortly before it's construction. It's in the SunWaterThree sim at (75/56/25).

At one point, Snowy had a mistletoe just over her tail. Which reminded me of the "enchanted mistletoe" in one online comic. 

The contest was won by Ginger (Dusk Griswold) and Jenni Greenfield.

 At 4PM, it was the Happy Vixen's turn for the club crawl. Outside of the main group of Sunweaver sims, the beach club is located in Purrfection Estates at (236, 219, 24). It recently celebrated it's tenth anniversary. 

Hey folks! It's time for the Happy Vixen's event in the Club Crawl. On this hot day, many of us are wishing for winter. So our theme for the Crawl is Christmas in July. Come in Christmasy colors of red & white and green, Santa hats, reindeer, elves, or anything else Christmasy you can think of. Our Christmas kitsune DJ Mattie spins the tunes.

"What does Santa do in his garden? Hoe hoe hoe!"

DJ Mattie, the star DJ of the Sunbeamer RFL team this Relay season, played the music for the two hours for this part of the event with a number of classic Christmas tunes and a few funny ones such as "Leroy the Redneck Reindeer."

I only took a few pictures of the event, so  the camera didn't pick up the crowd that would come over before, during and after halftime. The winner of the contest was Dusk Griswold. 

At 6PM was Club Cutlass. Unlike most of the other clubs in the crawl, it regularly had events on this day of the week and time. The airship club is located high over Sunweaver Bay at (114/117/757).

It may be hot outside, but we're celebrating the yuletide tonight at Cutlass. get in to your Christmas outfits and come out to party with DJ Geerkil and his crew. Doors open at 6 PM.

DJ Geerkil (who goes by a few nicknames such as "Sausage") played the music for the event. Some of his tunes were a bit on the twisted side for this Xmas-themed party. The club itself was decorated a bit, such as putting reindeer antlers on the pirate bunny logo on the dance floor.

Besides the dragon DJ, there were a few other large avatars. This guy "bear"ly fit through the door.

While usually 250L is up on each of the two contest boards, for this party it was 1500L each. Kylee Gracemount and AndrewFoxianArctic were the winners.

At 8PM, it was the turn of the Sunweaver's classic rock club, Xanadu. Like Cutlass, it also usually plays at this day of the week and time. It's high above the HV Community sim at (67/207/4051).

 Saturday July 24, 2021  Tonite, 8PM :Hey folks! It's Club Xanadu's event in the Club Crawl. On this hot day, many of us are wishing for winter. So our theme for the Crawl is Christmas in July. DJ Jesse was supposed to be the one making music for Xanadu. But her Internet was out. So DJ Snowbuns, still in her reindeer avatar, filled in.

The contest ended in a tie between Nikkita Sugar Lefavre (Aubrytia Resident) and DeniseUnicorn Toonie.

Finally at 10PM was the last event at the crawl, at Club Balance. The one club outside the Sunweaver community, its located at Liwei (113/23/53).

The club had an event going earlier, which had more people, but a number went to bed after it ended. So DJ Maliit played the tunes for a small but happy crowd. There was no contest, but the folks were happy just the same.

And so that was the FCA's summer 2021 club crawl. There will likely be another around Halloween, or perhaps Christmastime.

"Last Call" - Club Zero Gravity Closes

It was on May 31st 2010 that it was announced Club Zero Gravity had reopened in the Purrfection Estates sim. More then four years later on August 14, 2014, the club held it's final party there.

After over four years of being in orbit over Purrfection, Club Zero Gravity is closing it's doors. But rather than mourn, we chose to hold one last bash, the "Last Call." The contest theme is "come as you are." We at the "Party among the stars" wish to thank you for being with us for the long journey, and it is now time to say goodbye.

"That's all, folks."

Nydia Tungsten, the owner of Club Zero Gravity and the Purrfection sim, took to the DJ booth herself for this final part. She had gotten her start as DJ "Naughty Nydia," and her selection of tunes went from popular classics to comical to cheeky and riskee.

 Miyuki Naidoo, the hostess of the club, changed to her popular but seldom-seen Felicia avatar.

Many people attended this last party, a few whom came back to Second Life after a hiatus for this occasion. Two showed up for the first time, saying they were sorry they were not here for earlier events. A couple would later tell me they would have come if it wasn't for events in real life.

Club Zero Gravity was created in 2007 in the Pockwock sim in the early days of the Sunweaver community, built by Shockwave Yarreach. Shockwave would say that night there was only a limited amount of space available for the club, so he put dance balls on the wall and ceiling, which quickly led to the name.

The club would later move with the community to the Sunweaver Estates, going through two more reconstructions, a "borg cube" look, and later the blue and steel space station look by Ranchan Weidman that many feel was it's best look.  It was closed in 2009, to be reopened in Purrfection several months later.

The crowd was sad to see the club go, but was determined to have a good time. People reacted to Nydia's friskier tunes by cracking dirty jokes. And talked about various happenings in Second Life.

There was a 2000 Linden prize up for grabs that night. But as Nydia invited the staff to enter for it as well, she was talked into putting her name on the board as well. When the voting was closed and the results announced, she ended up with the most votes. She reacted with surprise, then a humble bow.

After the official end up the party, some hung around for a little while, posing for a few pictures. One lady, whom lives at Purrfection, asked friends not to stop coming to the sim.

 But this may not be the end for the space station club. There's already talk by Sunweaver Estates onwner Rita Mariner of finding a place for Zero-G somewhere. But where to put all those prims so nobody's land gets lagged? Rather than risk dashing raised hopes, not even a guestimate date has been announced. But the general feeling is it will be back, someday.

In the meantime, two clubs are reopening in the Sunweaver Estates to fill the time slots once held by the "Party among the stars." The Vinyl Museum, built in 2009 as "Perri's Xanadu" over what is now HV Community, will he holding events Tuesdays from 6 to 8 PM. Little Dove, the Zeppelin club first built to hold Relay events for the old Passionate Redheads Relay for Life team, will be holding events Thursday nights from 6 to 8 PM. The Happy Vixen, Zero-G's sister beach club, is closing and the group and possibly the name, to be used by the new surfing hangout and beach club at the Sunny Beach sim, Mondays from 6-8.

SL Newser's Anniversary Weekend

Last week was the fourth Anniversary of the launch of the Second Life Newser. From Thursday June 5th to Saturday June 7th, there were four celebrations in it's honor, one for every year of it's operation.

On 6PM SL time on June 5, Club Zero Gravity, the space station club in Purrfection, held the first event. DJ Cynthia Farshore performed the music for the crowd.

DJ Cynthia also played for the event the following day, at the Happy Vixen Beach club at 3PM SL time on Friday June 6, also in Purrfection. Gemma Cleanslate and Theonlyjohnny were there, along with longtime friend Breezes Babi and others. Normally having events on Monday, this was a special event for the club.

June 7 at Noon was the main event, the party at the private beach of our longtime friend Covadonga Writer.

Cova had to leave just as people were showing up, and it wasn't long before Gemma, Grey, Nydia, and others were dancing away

Grease Coakes was the DJ of our happy event. Instead of the Griffin av he's been wearing for so long, he's been appearing more in this "mutant fox" avatar.

We had no shortage of friends with us. Among those there was Ucello "Uccie" Poultry of "The Poultry Report." Happy Caturday, Uccie.

A friend of Grease's whom was dressed a bit, unusual, for a dance party. She later told me she was going to a mosque that day. Guess one can call it "boogie in a burka."

We had lots of fun that afternoon. After Grease, Qwark Allen showed up to DJ for a while.

Finally at 6PM that day was the last of the Newser events, the party at Club Cutlass, managed by Jenni Greenfield.

Shockwave Yareach was the DJ for the party, attended by estate owner Rita Mariner and many others.

DrFran Babcock was there, with her friend Ariel Loonie, whom was dressed for the "Goat Simulator" game.

So was Eleanor Medier of the Sim Street Jounral.

Some of the partiers dressed the part, with fedoras & overcoats.

Shockwave found several news-themed tunes among the music played, "Do you know how few songs there are about the news?"

It was one fun party, and a great way to end the Newser's anniversary events.

But this isn't the end of this month's parties. We had such a fun time, we're planning one for Qwark and Gemma's home beach on June 21st. Plus, there will be a couple parties at the SL11B Newser exhibit.
