Scenes from the July 4rth Weekend

At The Vinyl on Thursday July 2, the club celebrated the Fourth a little early with it's "Red, White, and Blue" party, with DJ Rose spinning the tunes that night.

At Steelhead's Friday Night party on July 3, some of the locals dressed up in red, white, and blue. One tall, thin elf looked surprisingly good in an Uncle Sam outfit.

And where there's the Fourth, fireworks often aren't far behind, in the case of Steelhead, their "exploding" tip jar. Needless to say, DJ Fuzzball got a lot of tips that night.

In the past few Fourth of Julys, the Elizabeth Town holiday sim changed it's look to "Summertown USA." But this year, Elizabeth town isn't on the map, for some reason. But I did see this decorated place in the Geranium Island sim that reminded me a little of it, with a number of red, white, and blue goodies up for sale.

"Search" revealed a flag store that had all kinds of them, including the Civil War Confederate flag.

The "Furry Fashion" lounge had an American flag up all week. The owner Amethyst Crystal is British, but she didn't let her ancestors being on the other side of the Revolutionary War stop her and her fans from having fun. Her club would have it's own Fourth of July party.

All day on Saturday, July 4, ZZ Studios hosted a car show.

The owner, Cindy "Zig Zag" Babii, hasn't been on much lately, but took the time to be here this day. She explained she'd been extra busy in real life lately.

 Saturday night, Club Cutlass had a Fourth of July themed party.

Several people there wore holiday-themed outfits appropriate for the day.

Tantari Kim, who usually DJs at The Vinyl, performed at Cutlass for this holiday event.

 Dusk Griswold and Zorro Wuramunga were the winners of the "Best in 4rth" contest that night.

 And what would the Fourth of July be without a fireworks show?

Marianne McCann, who's been holding them when she can on Saturday nights, had a special one for the Fourth of July.

 All kinds of streamers and rockets were going up in the air, and a few times they would form patterns in the shape of American flags.

She ended things with a rainbow. and applause from the audience.

It was a great Fourth of July in Second Life, full of red, white, and blue.

4rth of July at Areo Pines

On the evening of July 4rth, Areo Pines held their annual Independence Day music concert. The place was crowded, close to fifty avatars present at times. The event took place at the Equus sim. This was the seventh year the virtual forest park has held these events.

Sorry for the late invite but the sim has been packed! Come experience and up close and personal High Quality concert with the EAGLES as we Rock in the USA!!!!

There were a number of lawn chairs set up for people to sit in. Or one could sit at one of the picnic tables and grab a hot dog. One of the park rangers was at a grill, serving up burgers and more franks. There were also dispensers one could pick up sparklers, and some of the people there had them in hand.

There were also some beer kegs about. No word on whether or not anyone was picked up for horseback riding while intoxicated.

Being a 4rth of July party, many were dressed in red white and blue. One was dressed in a "Wonder Woman" outfit. There was also a horse avatar walking about. And Areo Pines Park owner Cindy Bolero was there, dancing away with the group as the music from the "Eagles" played.

The event went late into the evening, the place still packed and all having fun.

Areo Pines Park has many events around the year. Plus any day people can come by for horseback riding, or just walk the forest trails at their own pace.

Fourth of July in Second Life

July 4, or the Fourth of July is Independence Day in the United States, when Americans celebrate the date their country declared itself a free and independent nation. In real life, people celebrate by going to parades, setting off fireworks, or simply holding a barbecue with the neighbors. In Second Life, Americans celebrate as well with a good party, and there were a number of those across the Grid.

One of the bigger events was the Fourth of July Festival hosted by the Flying Tigers high above the WW2 Tribute sim. From Tuesday July 3rd to Friday July 5th, there was music and exhibitions. There were also a few freebies to pick up, such as a jacket with the American flag on the back, handheld sparklers, and patriotic ribbons.

On July 4rth, DJ Heath performed, and a sizeable crowd showed up. One visitor, possibly from Europe, stumbled across the place. He didn't seem at sure what was going on at first, "Oh, this is when you Americans celebrate your Independence Day." He soon joined the party and was welcomed in.

Jessii2009 "Jessie" Warrhol (center) of the Flying Tigers, was also at the festivities. At other times at the festival were a fashion show, a Bon Jovi tribute, a cheerleader squad performance, and of course plenty of fireworks.

In Areo Pines Park, there was also celebration. In Equus, a stage was set up, with a band performance played out to a crowd.

Some sat in lawn chairs. Others danced around on the ground.

The event was hosted by Cindy Bolero. There was some irony in this celebration of freedom, there were a few concerns expressed by her about Internet legislation being debated in Washington, that they might not be able to hold music concerts like this in the future as copyright rules could make them illegal.

But in the meantime, there was celebration, and fireworks.

 Various clubs held 4rth of July parties. Among them were Mystery's "Queen of Hearts" and Club Zero Gravity. And there was Club Cutlass in the Sunweaver Estates, which had a small gathering that evening.

The tunes were provided by DJ Akea, whom was with his lady friend Angel.

Sunnies:  Tonight we blow the roof off Cutlass, with our 4th of July.  DJ Akea will be spinning the tunes, if we can get him out of the Trash Cans.  (Lots of good leftovers from the BBQs).  Anyways, dress up in your best Red,white and blues, to showoff your colors,  See you here.

Besides the music, Akea took a few minutes to play some people talking about what it means to be an American. Some were funny, others were more serious.

Not all at the club were from the United States. One girl showing up was from Australia. Someone joked she fit right in anyway as the country's colors were also red, white and blue.

It should be noted that the day saw some record high temperatures across the United States. So Second Life was one way to celebrate the day while beating the heat.

It was an event-filled Fourth of July on the Grid.

"What do you think of when you hear the word "summer"? I don't know about you, but i think of beaches. What is the first thing you think when you hear "4th of July"? I think of fireworks. And who doesn't like fireworks? Especially on a warm summer night! And what better way to celebrate the 4th of July this year than with a fireworks display on a beach after a day of dancing and fun? And that's what the Guardians For Life will be hosting on the 4th as we present the Red, White, & Blue 4th of July Celebration. Red/White/Blue is encouraged, but not required. So if you want to dance, relax after working, try your Swimmer HUD, enjoy the sand without it getting everywhere, enjoy the sun without worry of sunburn, and watch a fireworks display, then join us as we use the rays to *fight* cancer. Who knows, there might even be a DJ to keep you on your dancing feet."
