Preparing For The Burn

By Gemma Cleanslate

I took a tour of the 11  regions of the October Burn2 which is “The Great Unknown."  There is a lot of building going on and some fun already.

I started out on the balloon tour to see if it was working and, yes it is. But it still under construction. Bar Tenk always does a wonderful job with his tours of the playa. It is a great way to get an overview of the playa. One can hop off at any time if something catches your eye.

At this point trucks and cranes are parked everywhere with materials for many builds as the creators get ready to fill their parcels.

Early creators already have their installations in place. Minka Angel (Saraminka Nova)has so many activities she is involved in on the playa she has her Kid’s camp all set, kids of all ages that is. She allowed me to take a picture so you can look for it to go have some fun! It is filled with games you will love.

I ran into an artist friend of mine, elan (Ineffable Mote)  standing by his trailer examining his installation.

He is almost ready for visitors and has his porto potty at the corner of his plot for them annd for passersby .

Not only did Shimada Yoshikawa  finish his gorgeous stage but he and and Gwenn Yoshikawa (bubbles1724) were already were enjoying a dance under the arches. Shimada also created the main stage that I will leave for you to discover.

In the town of Gerlach which houses offices , saloons and the entrance to the playa there are aids for new avatars and loads of gifts so don’t miss them when you visit the playa.

The opening is less than a week away!!

SL13B Preparations Under Way

By Gemma Cleanslate

It is hard to believe that another Second Life Birthday is so near. Preparations have been underway for most of that year for the Leads, Doc Gascoigne, Diana Renoir, Marianne McCann and many coordinators. There is so much work that goes into the event behind the scenes that no one knows about. The applications for builders, art parcels, volunteers, performers went out about a month ago. Letters of acceptance have been sent to builders and now they are here in the regions putting up the most amazing installations.
As an Exhibit Assistant, called a Vanguard this year I went through the hours of training to be ready. We register the applicants and get them all the messages they need to do their work and settle them where they belong. All of them are thrilled to be here.
The usual builders who never lose their enthusiasm and especially the first timers who are in awe at first. It is great fun to move around the regions and look at what is happening so quickly! From mowing the flat grasses and sweeping the roadways we find the parcels filling up with such creativity. I love to see the parcel holders that some out down to claim their parcels.

The opening is not that far away, June 19 so all must be in place well before that day.

Holocluck Henly leaves his place holder

Pygar Bu likes to decorate his canals in his region.
When my current job is done I will then move to the Greeters section. We will assist any visitors to find gifts and certain parcels and especially the Stages and Auditorium where there will be a myriad of events taking place for the whole event.

I invite you to check out the Teaser videos on the website and check keep an eye on  information that is there. You can find out who is doing all the work and see the schedule when it is up. You can also check out pictures from past years events . Be prepared to be amazed!! http://www.slcommunitycelebration.info/

Preparations For Burn2

By Gemma Cleanslate

Time is passing quickly as burners get ready for the 2013 Burn2. I visited Deep Hole, the home sim of Burning Man in second life. The sales kiosks are set up for those buying  plots for the event. If you don’t Have yours yet better get over there. Building begins on September 17th so hurry!

There are several sized plots available but going fast. There are volunteer kiosks there too.  Gerlach, the entrance town, is clean and ready with all the buildings in place. I found an area where the Department of Mutant Vehicles has set up a building location so people can try their hands at creating vehicles for the roadways. There are materials available to help you get started if you want to add to the fleet. There is another area where you can try your hand at building and people on call to help. I watched someone working on sitting scripting. Meeting circles are set for those who have volunteered to help with tasks.

I know the temple team builders are already at work in a hidden place, at least planning, and I am sure The builders of the Man are hard at work too. There have already been a few classes to give assistance to new builders and will be more coming. The Rangers will have training classes all this next week. I know the Art Department has chosen the Juried camps SL artists and they were published the other day in the SL Newser.   If you are not familiar with the Burn2 in second life I refer you to the website for all the history and background you need:  http://burn2.org/about. There is also a form for volunteering in one service or another .

There are many opportunities for putting your talents to work to make the Burn a big success and it is explained on the site:  http://www.burn2.org/open-jobs. Take a look. Being a Ranger is work but fun also. Training begins very soon so sign up if you like moderating.  Lamplighters have marches to the man every night lighting the lamp on the roadways. Greeters are the first people you meet as you enter the burn1 and can direct you to freebies and parties and builds that you are looking for. Translators are so helpful because the Burn2 in SL is an international event.  The skilled scripters and builders work with the DPW or theDMV to make your sims available with roads, water, and what the builders need. Use your particular talent to make the Burn2 a great experience for all by volunteering. Look at the descriptions on the page above to see how you might fit into the burn2 family. More to come.

SL10B Preparations: Flying over the Sims

By Gemma Cleanslate

So now I am on the sims of the SL10 Birthday Celebration, in my role of Exhibitor Assistant , not just looking, working hard! To help all the builders get settled is a great honor. I did it last year and loved it. It is a thrill to hear the thanks of the builders as we escort them to their plot and pass out their “slice of the cake.” This is their information box that will give them the building rules and badge as a builder.

Sunday was hectic to say the least. At Noon the sims opened and the rush was on. Before the builders came to the sim we had to verify them as an accepted applicant, then invite them into the Exhibitors group. It was great to have all the volunteer Exhibitors Assistants that were available. The crowds persisted into the evening hours and I am sure long into the night. Their anticipation just to get in there on their plot was electric.  Some of the builders already have their exhibits in their pockets and begin immediately to put it them out. Never mind we are still standing there doing paper work, LOL. This makes the sims bloom quickly.

Some exhibitors are still planning. That is ok. There is plenty of time.Thank goodness they were patient. So far so good. Some, who are knowledgeable from past experience waited until the second day. The lines were not so long and moved much faster.

I have had a chance to fly around now and take a look. It is amazing !! Already the fascinating builds are appearing. I also know from experience that no matter how long I am in those 20 sims I will not ever see every build. It is almost impossible. So I recommend trying very hard for you to set aside lots of time during the weeks of the birthday celebration. You are going to need it,not only to see the builds but also to attend the numerous 24/7 parties that will be on 5 stages. Performers and DJs will be there, June 16 through June 29 but the sims will remain longer for you to try to see it all. I say Try and I mean Try

I can’t show you any of the builds yet, but have permission to show you some plot holders. More to come.
