From Friday January 31 to Sunday February 2, the "Winter Burn" took place. A spinoff event of Burn2 that takes place in October, the event is the scene of artistic displays and music events, held in the Burning Man - Deep Hole sim.
This years theme for the Winter Burn was "Magic."
"Hear ye, hear ye! We welcome our magical friends. For every being who entereth herein shall be seen as magic. There are no bystanders, no mere observers! Ye shall be part of the spectacle on the Playa."
Between the entrance and the rest of the event was a tunnel with a few crystals.
Most times there would be a greeter, "Welcome home," who would be near a chest full of freebie gifts.
Among the items in the freebie package were wearable burn animations, and a mask, which reminded me of the most visible symbol of the Coronavirus outbreak this winter.
There was a display that when clicked would lead to the Burn2 website and social media.
Gemma Cleanslate was there, and took a few pictures of her own.
Gemma would also come across a party on the Main Stage.
My own journey would come across things like this tall giant in the middle of the sim.
"Ho! Ho! Ho!"
Some exhibits, such as "Lepus Welcome You," really were winter-themed.
I would drop by the main stage myself, seeing a few familiar faces, including dark unicorn Avariel Falcon.
iSkye Silverweb, in a burning tiny avatar.
It was quite a party.
I would drop by a couple times with friends.
Among the things we would see was a performance by the Lamplighters.
For those who missed the show, don't worry. The Burners will have another festival soon. And of course there's the main event in October.
