Oasis for Parkinson’s

“I am thrilled to announce the opening of 'The Oasis Event and Hunt for Parkinson's' Come explore the mystery of ancient Egypt. Events For Parkinson’s and Miss Globe Universal Charity Foundation partnered up for this exciting new event. “ Barbie Alchemi announced last week and I am late in getting over there to see it all.

This is a partnership installation and is not to be missed. The build is fabulous. Every step has hints of ancient Egypt with all the art and hieroglyphics around.

Each shop is filled with beautiful offerings from your favorite creators. So many are participating and giving contributions from their sales, some 100 percent. The shopping is so enticing I did indulge.

In one shop there is an informational display about Parkinson's disease and the efforts to find a cure for it. Be sure to stop there and read,

There are also two hunts going on. In many shops you will find a small scale pyramid for sale for only 15L with great prizes in them. I peeked and also got quite a few.  The other hunt is in the large pyramid where there are gems scattered about and you must find those that contain a prize. These are more expensive but worth it since the proceeds also go to the great cause. There is fabulous fashion show planned for Saturday, the 20th, 10AM SLT at the temple near the pyramid.

A large outdoor stage is set for music, theater, dancing and fun. I found a couple dressed for the event having a dance on the stage while I was there for the 4th time. Even if you don’t shop much you can make a donation at one of the lovely kiosks set up around the region. Be sure to make a visit before the 21st of April when it will close. Kudos to the creators of the sim for the beauty they brought to it.

Editor's Note - I had a few words with Barbie Alchemi. She credited Rose Mikaelson (djroseathena) with the building of the Oasis, and mentioned Nola Hellershanks and Shelia Style as the co-cordinators.  One of the buildings she pointed out to me was the pyramid, which had a small maze inside. Creations For Parkinson's Raises Over 800,000 Lindens

On Tuesday May 13th, the Creations for Parkinson's group held their third annual fundraiser at the Sweethearts Jazz club. For thirteen hours, a number of musicians performed for the crowd, which was up to 75 avatars in size. The event was to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox foundation.

Last year, the event had raised 756,000 Lindens. In the final hour of the event, they not only reached that amount again, but exceeded it. At the official close of the event, the total raised was 800,000 Lindens, or more than $2,500 US dollars. More would be continued to be donated, and later the official number was 805,000 Lindens.

Barbie Alchemi, the head of Creations for Parkinson's, called the amount donated, "amazing! ... it is the power of love!" Barbie went on to say someone had told her Linden Lab's CEO Ebbe Altberg himself had tweeted about the event. Also, "Firestorm and Singularity viewers all had us on their opening page today!!!! I am so happy and amazed at the kindness and generosity of the SL community."

Barbie expressed her thanks to the Newser not just for helping to publicize the event, but also writing about her real-life mother Fran Serenade, "she is unique both in real-life and in SL. She is so filled with love and joy of life. She is always eager to learn the next thing. When we are out (in real life) food shopping people will stopped us and say to her 'Do you know you glow' and she does."

Eventually, Barbie had to leave, "I have been glued to my computer chair since 8 am and it is time for me to get unglued. Heehee!" She expressed her thanks to "Shannon, Blake and the entire Sweethearts team."

Grand Opening of Peace Nation at Creations Park

On Saturday April 19th, Barbie Alchemi held a Grand Opening event to celebrate her new Peace Nation build at the Creations Park sim. The event lasted from 10AM to 7PM SL time.

"Please join us for a magical day of Live Music, Dance, Laughter and Friendship. This beautiful natural environment is a Native American "sim in the sky" built with love as a Native American "sim in the sky" for Creations Team Fox for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research."

 People were invited to dress in Native American fashion, as they danced to live music being performed, "Don your ceremonial robes, your feathers, your scales, claws & fur. Bring your drums & rattles! Our Nature Spirits are calling to us.Dance & sing, grounding our energy to the beat of tribal rhythms."  

Barbie's real life mother was also there, "I would like everyone to meet my awesome 87 years young Mom:  Fran Serenade, who is with us today. Everything I do (here) I do it with love for her." She invited people to watch the Youtube of Drax Despress' interview of them (click here).

Among the purposes of the sim and it's events is to collect funds for Parkinsons research, and this event collected quite a bit. At 4:29, Barbie spoke, "I have an exciting announcement! We have raised 45,000 Linden dollars so far today! Let's reach 50,000!"

Barbie invited everyone to explore the place after the party, "I hope everyone takes the time to explore this beautiful natural environment ... built with love. There is a lot to see and enjoy here. We also have an equally beautiful main sim and underwater. So please come back to see it all." One partier quickly agreed, "Barbie has done an amazing job of putting the sim together... well worth exploring."
