AdMire : Real Life Jam Meet-Up in The Netherlands

AdMire stands for "Adorable Mixed Realities." This event takes place in The Netherlands and in Second Life every year in the beginning of September. This year it took place from September 8th until September 10th, 2017. AdMire gives Second Life musicians the chance to play songs and where they play instruments and sing together and basically have fun in real life. It takes place in a castle called “Castle De Berckt” in The Netherlands ( in Baarlo, Limburg, The Netherlands ). This place used to be a monastery, so there is also a chapel.

Our goal is to bring performers from Second Life together to create music and mayhem for the enjoyment of our friends and fans in REAL LIFE. Whether you are a musician, a fan or just want to meet your Second Life friends in RL – join us for our annual live music event hosted in Baarlo, The Netherlands in September. AdMiRe welcomes visitors from countries all over the world – NL, UK, BE, DE, FR, DK, ES, IT, AU and yes, even AUS and US! Of course we hope to see YOU there at our next event, too!

 

This year, they played from Friday September 8th, 3 PM CET until the early hours of Sunday September 10th, 2017. The theme was “collaboration.“ That’s why they play music and sing together, some of which have never played together before.

This event is streamed live into Second Life in the place inworld that they made for it. They actually recreated the real life building here on the Grid. They hire this chapel venue each year to play music and sing together.

Some of the artists you can hear and play music there are: Kaycee Drayman, Wannahave Ferraris, Xander Nichting, Allegra3/Sandra, Inchino Melson, Tim Anadyr, Thera D., Aminius Writer, Mike Carnell, Michi Renoir, Lyn Carlberg and many more.

This is a nice experience, because it allows you to enjoy the music that is played live in real life and it is streamed live in Second Life. Real life and Second Life are combined in this event, which is a nice thing.Personally, I liked the event and the music in their venue in Second Life.

Beach Party at Sunny Beach

 On Saturday August 27, some of the Newser crew and their friends met up at the Sunny Beach sim for a beach party.

The event started a bit before Noon SL time, and was at the "Surf City" hangout.

 Tantari Kim, who DJs every Tuesday at the Happy Vixen, spun the tunes for the first hour.

Deaflegacy was there, sporting an itsy bitsy bikini.

Gemma Cleanslate had her own swimsuit as well.

Anne Brightstar, a friend of the newspaper, also had her swimwear.

 Not everyone was dancing all the time. There was some seating for those who weren't. Wesley Regenbogen was there, though didn't have a suit.

Quite a number showed up, including Sunweaver Chieftess Rita Mariner, Happy Vixen Manager Skylark Lefavre, and a number of others. Nydia Tungsten was there for a while as well.

 In the second hour, Grease Coakes took to the DJ booth.

 Breezes Babbi showed up for a little while at one point. Lately she's been spending most of her time in the Tombstone sim.

There was a 1000 Linden prize for the best swimsuit. Rita Mariner ended up with the most votes.

The party lasted for about three hours. There was lots of fun to go around between the music and the beach scenery.

Serious Request

Serious Request is a Dutch charity/fundraising event that collects Linden Dollars for a real life project. Every year there’s a different real life project behind Serious Request. This year’s project is “Hands Off Our Girls”, which is a project against the sexual abuse of women and girls in countries where there are conflicts. The project started on December 13 th, 2014 and will go on until December 21, 2014.

This real life project behind Serious Request is interesting, because it makes people aware of the problems in real life and they collect virtual money in Second Life and they donate it to the real life project after the event is done.

During the eight days 24/7, the DJs that volunteer for this project take requests. But in return they ask you to donate Linden Dollars for Serious Request. Once you donated the amount you wanted to donate, the DJs will play the song that you requested. The DJs stay the whole 8 days within the Glass House.  Every evening ( Dutch/Belgian time zone ) there is a live artist that performs at the stage behind the Glass House ( Glazen Huis in Dutch ). But aside that they also have auctions and contests and much more. All for a good cause in real life.

The sim that is created for Serious Request is called “sim Limburg3," created and owned by Quistis Shippe. It’s a Dutch sim, so the language spoken is Dutch, mostly. But also if you speak English, they will speak English to you, so don’t worry about it.

In my personal opinion, this event and the whole project is awesome and I will donate the Linden Dollars that I get from this article and an interview that I will be doing with the creators of the event. Although this is a very well known event by the Dutch residents in Second Life, I hope that more people get to know this event and the project behind it.

A Look Back at Burn2

Real life Burning Man Event

In real life the “Burning Man” festival takes place in Black Rock Desert in Nevada, U.S.A. It is a art and music festival, although participants can choose what to get out of the event. This real life event takes place every year, last time from August 25 th, till September 1st 2014. The “Wicker Man” is burned down at the end of the event.

Burn2 Second Life Event

In Second Life, we have our own version of the festival, called the “Burn2” event. It took place from October 18 th, 2014 and October 28 th, 2014. The Playa, the main place of the Burn2, was built up with many places to visit, too many to list here, though. When you arrive for the first time at Burn2, you need to ring the bell, to be part of the so-called “Burners,” the Second Life residents that are participating in the Burn2 event.

At Burn2, you can wander around and visit many places. There is a statue, the “Burning Man,” which is in the center of the main plaza. It stays put there the whole time of the event. The same as in the real life event,  “The Man” is burned down as well. I was there when they burned down the Burning Man. You can view the pictures here : 
 

  
The burning is a slow process, but it was beautiful to see it.

It’s quite an experience to see the virtual statue getting burned down ( virtually, of course ).

It must have taken much time to develop the scripts and textures to provide us with such a amazing effect taking place.

In my personal opinion, this is a cool event, it was my first time experiencing it and I must admit, I will be there next year as well. If you haven’t experienced the Burn2 event, you are too late for this year’s. But you can count down to the one next year if you like.

There is a group in Second Life called the “Burning Man 2.0”, which provides you with more information about the festival and also let’s you know when an event is taking place. Besides Burn2, the Burners have a few smaller events at other times during the year.

When the event is over they have a “Leave no trace” practice, which is one of the Ten Principles. The exhibits are left up for a few days for anyone coming late to see. Then everything is taken down, aside from the desert landscape. Not a prim that isn't part of a rock or catus is left behind.

The great thing about this event is that there's a lot to do. You can go to a disco, or just wander around where you want, looking at the exhibits and pondering the meaning of the art.

Having fun is the main principle that you need to keep in mind !
