Multiverse "Jail and Bail" Raises "Over 25,000" Linden Dollars For Parkinsons

 Yesterday. Tuesday November 4, was the final day of the Multiverse Fair, a Halloween-themed major fundraiser for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds Parkinson's research. Among the events was a "Jail and Bail" that took place in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, there was a Linden dunk tank event, but I missed that. 

 

 Is they innocent?  Or is they guilty?  Only you can decide!  Come to the Jail and Bail and give your input regarding the two prisoners!  Jail and Bail is going on NOW and we got a pretty good crowd of AMAZING AVATARS. :

 

Mesmer Macabre and Grimoire Hexem were the volunteers for the event. Both were in cages between two donation boxes, one labeled "Keep them in," one labeled "Let them out."

 

For close to an hour, a crowd made up of characters worthy of a circus carnival, including a steampunk robot, a furry clown with huge claws, an elf, and a ten foot tall man, both cheered on the jailers and the jailed. There was also someone acting as the mascot of the fair, a "Nubbins." "You all have some incredible avatars!" he told everyone, "Seriously. Thanks for showing up today in *style*."

 

At one point, the cell of one was flooded with rodents, "Oh noes! Her cage is filled with rats! Oh the humanity!!" Then there was a flash that left the prisoners unharmed, but not the critters, "Oh no, my rats!"

 

The prisoners pleaded, "If you keep me in jail... I won't be able to create things, now wouldn't that be a shame?" And there were retorts, "The only reason to keep them jailed is public safety.  AND WE ALREADY KNOW THAT IS SHOT TO BLAZES!" 

 

The event went on, the Nubbins goimg, "Okay, I didn't wanna do this ... I didn't wanna resort to this ... BUT IF YOU DON'T SET MY CLIENTS FREE, I'M GONNA STAR TELLING *DAD JOKES* !" "When did you stop telling them?" Mesmer then offered the crowd a gift if 1000L more was donated. It was, and I found a funny bumper attachment in my inventory that when others used, it made a little gesture and noise. 

 

Then Nubbins announced, "We're up to 5000! And I promised a huge explosion, right?  WHO WANTS TO SEE A REALLY REALLY HUGE EXPLOSION?" And then there was a flash, with a ring of light remaining, "Boom baby!"

 

The Linden count went up, "You are a generous group. Donations are up to a total of 16.900 so far! :D " More gifts were given out, strange ones, "We will protect your families with meat abominations." "My clients gonna haz to go to the bathroom soon, and that's somethin' ya don't wanna see!" Then Nubbins announced, "Okay, I just got word from da judge. As of now, these signs is reversed. 'Let Them Out' means keep them in." "Whaaaat?" "And 'Keep Them In' means let them out." "If they were reveresed, wouldn't it be 'Let them in' and 'Keep them out?'" "Hmmmm, dat a good point Morgan. Now go sit in the corner." 

 

There was talk about releasing just one. Then of releasing them,but turning them into something called a "meatcat."  "We up to 10,000 on free them!!." Nubbins went at one point, "We gots thirteen minutes to save dem from, syrup induced punishment!" Mesmer went, "We got just 7 minutes and 3k to get us out of here before the meatcat consumes." One went, "We know Mesmer did it! Guilty as charged! Mesmer's fingerprints were on the..." "What was the crime?!" "Crimey fingerprints."

Time ticked on, "Okay, we have 20 seconds." "Ahhhhhhhhhh!" "Can't we just drop the cages in the ocean someplace?" And then, "We got bailed by fifty! Yay! We are released!" "Time is up!" Nubbins announced, "They are freed." And the cells were opened. Grimoire went, "I knew you were wonderful, reasonable people." Mesmer spoke, "You guys are AMAZING!"  One guy grumbled, "Sabotaged! there goes the sweatshop, caged forced labor plan," then brightened, "Thanks again for the goodies Mesmer."

 

Nubbins announced, "Thank you all for your generous donations! This jail n bail earned over 25,000 L$ for the foundation!" Some people left to look around, others hung around for a bit.

 

Later on, there would be an announcement in the group.

After that night, the Multiverse Fair was officially closed. But fans would look back at the chaotic, sometimes slightly freaky and spooky, fun.

The Manga Fair

There is a lovely event going on in Second Life called, "Manga Fair 2015." Basically it is as it's titled, a manga fair. While many people would think it includes reading manga or downloading some sort of online manga book, it's not that at all. This fair is for anime nerds and geeks alike! Now to get details out of the way, the event runs from the 19th of July to the 9th of August. For the location it is located in the region called, La Isla Hispana. While it may seem like a measly little island, when your'e the normal sized avatar you are, the land seems much bigger and you may end up getting lost when looking at the different vendors and or shops. The land is owned by Princess Briand of "Babydoll" and "Candy Events" by the way.

 

You are looking for cute, kawaii items? You love pastel colors and the fun side of life? You want to fill the wardrobe for you Utilizator or M3? Then come to the manga fair and grab these awesome new items from some of your favorite brands in second life! 

Upon visiting, for my experience anyway, it was a tad laggy because of how many visitors this place has even today. It may just be my sucky laptop but it sure lagged at times when simply walking around. Besides that I found it quite simple and pretty the scenery, with its green grass, autumn looking trees, and the design of each shop. Want to know the best thing about it though? Gachas! Of course those are a good thing when your sort of broke like me and only want to slap out like 50L at most. Overall they have an assortment of items like clothes that are futuristic, Sailor Moon, school girl outfits, accessories, and even some items for men. There are a load more I could list but it would take forever and you wouldn't want the fun and adventure told would you? 

While I could ramble on and on about the place I suggest you take a look yourself at it and see if there's anything you like, or just to explore more sims in general. While I didn't buy anything myself, but snagged tiny freebies, it was cool to see the different items and creations people made, especially the nerds of SL, haha. I hope you all are able to get in on the event before it's over. Enjoy!

Scenes From the 2014 Christmas Expo

Tomorrow, December 4, marks the start of the Christmas Expo, also known as the 2014 Christmas Expo and Breedables Fair. From then to September 15, the event will raise funds for the American Cancer Society through sales at shops and stores at temporary areas around the ACS sim.

Yesterday, Second Life Newser got a sneek peak at the Expo grounds, and so took a look around. The area was well designed, the scene looking like a snowy winter day, with the sun barely showing through gray skies.

The shops are required to have at least two new and exclusive products in which 100% of the cash paid for them goes to the Relay for Life in Second Life. 100% of the cash donated to the purplish Relay for Life kiosks goes for cancer research.

Each seller is also taking part in at least one of the following: Hunt for the Bells Hunt, Silent Auction, Raffle, Christmas Tree Lot Donation, or Ornament Silent Auction.

There was a trolley one could get on for more rapid transit to other sims in the Expo grounds.

Breedable ranches were in their own sims seperate from the more conventional looking shops selling non-pet items

 Not every single ranch was covered in snow. This one for critters in the tropics and savana stood out.

Not all pets appealed to ones sense of cute. For these wolves, they didn't have prepared meat. The pig was the dinner.

Breedable dragons, which Xymbers Slade wrote about some time ago, "Mind if I smoke?"

Summer Fair at Aero Pines Park

Aero Pines Park, a favorite place for many of us, has a Summer Fair and Carnival in Equus hosted by the Aero Pines Park Rangers and the Bravo Carnival Company. Every fun game that you have ever played, and every ride you have ever enjoyed in Second Life seems to be here for your vacation fun if you are having a staycation like many of us. Take your friends and have a ball!

 

On the way in, grab a mallet and test your strength at the High Striker game. There are lots of arcade games on the midway to try, some very familiar like Whack a Mole. One game I had never seen called Zombie Meltdown was great fun. Out in the rodeo field I saw someone riding a bucking bull for points. I will skip that. There is a fast carousel, a scary roller coaster, bumper cars, and an enormous ferris wheel, my favorite ride, along with some others you will recognize.  Take a walk through the Fun House, that is a real maze. Good luck! 

 

Wandering around all the sims of Aero Pines is always so interesting no matter when you go. I took the long long ride from the sky isle down the water slide and right into the ocean! When you land, you are near the bumper boats so have some fun there too.  Do not miss the log flume ride!!! Rezz a log and jump in and you will be on the journey of your life. The log is hauled up inclines and slides down the water ways, wending its way to the end. 

 

Outside the entrance to the carnival you will find the brochure and a list of the many teleports you can take to various areas of the Park that are always available. I saw some people  riding horses on the beach not too far from the carnival. Rezz a demo horse and ride the trails. I do that often. I also found some new little golf cars to rezz and took a ride around before I had to leave. Be sure to read the directions (laughter).  

 

Just get to the Carnival before the end of August! Enjoy!

A Fairy Faire of Hope

I arrived at Fairelands Junction, sponsored by Oceania Breedables.  I was greeted by a series of trees with portals to different areas of the Faire.  I began in Ravenshard.  Amid the sparkling giant purple ferns and whimsical mushroom furniture, I found a variety of venders in and out of the enchanted trees.  Included in these was an Alice in Wonderland display, based on the classic novels. Fantasy-themed music from movies and shows and other sources was played. Dotting the landscape was a assortment of boards and kiosk, all to benefit the Relay for Life cause. This was sponsored by the Epic Toy Factory. An announcer/DJ gave amusing dialog to entertain shoppers.


 Next I went to Evensong Woods, Sponsored by Roawenwood. This had several gothic arch style buildings and platforms. Scrollwork and pale grey stone lended them a decidedly Elven grace. They also featured brocade drapes and banners, ivy strewn pillars and balconies with elegant railings. Similar boards and kiosks for RFL were here as well.

Next was on to Crimson Fields sponsored by Trident.  It was a huge field of red flowers as you might expect, contrasted by rocky cliffs and stone ruins.

Then I explored Titans Hollow Sponsored by Cerridwen's Cauldron. More graceful curving scrollwork  and what appeared to be chandler's or candelabras suspected in the mists or clouds delignted my vision.  Sunset-hued stained glass framed by scrollwork and matching rails make me wish I had the room and lindens to take another picture.  Platforms of crystal glass overlooked mystical mists.  After that I adventured around Lotus Valley Dream, sponsored by Looking Glass.. This had a definite East Asian quality with Japanese-style gates and Chinese Lanterns. The characteristic uptipped roof corners were met by circular doorways and bamboo decor.  Cherry blossoms and bonsai trees neatly pruned trimmed an orderly walk.  Yes, I found lotuses growing in a lake, guarded by a majestic and sinuous Eastern dragon.

On to the Dragonspire sponsored by The Arcanum. This locale contained a decidedly cavernous quality, with stalactites and stalagmites of huge size all over.  Flashes of scintillating crystals of every hue adorned the walls and cold-seeming underground rivers provided a icy refreshment to passersby . giant slabs of stone bore equal sized cracks, as if damaged by something enormous and powerful. Tunnels into pitch darkness as well as glowing scrollwork and crystal formations gave a feeling of both magic and trepidation.

I then teleported to the Valley of Ish'Nar, sponsored by the Key of Hope Hunt. This region was a place of ruins in the forest and lost treasures. Chests, boxes with ornate decor and golden pitches as well as precious coins and gems lie in every part.Strange sounds emanated from somewhere, lending it a mysterious and secret aspect.

Lumenaria sponsored by Solarium was a landscape of courtyards and magnificent fountains as well as buildings with a somewhat Germanic expression. Exotic gardens and oddly shaped balloons meet the onlooker. 

At last count the Lindens raised is over 7 million at the Faire.  However, more is still needed.  Many of us, our loved ones, our friends have been effected by the tragedy and plague that is Cancer.  So even if fantasy isn't your slice of Elven bread or your mug of Dwarven ale, please check out this Faire anyway, it is for a wonderful cause.  If I missed anything important please let me know.

The 2013 Buddy Walk

For the second half of March, the Buddy Walk Fair and Expo is taking place in Second Life. The Buddy Walk is a yearly event created to raise awareness of Down Syndrome, the most common chromosome abnormality in humans. The event is also to promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with the disorder. The condition is caused by a third copy of the 21st chromosome, and generally results in mental disabilities and other problems. About one in every 700 babies born in the United states is diagnosed with the condition.

According to a notecard from the event, the Buddy Walk was founded in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society. Seventeen events related to the Walk took place across the US. By 2008, there were more than 250 related events, including Second Life. This was the first year of the SL Buddy Walk, in which 170 residents attended, and 55,000 Lindens were raised. In 2012. over five hundred residents attended, and over 144,000 Lindens were donated for the event.

This year, the Buddy Walk is called the Buddy Walk Charity Fair and Expo, taking place over not a weekend, but over a two week period. Like last year, there are musicians performing at live events. With the addition of the charity fair, there are stores, "Each designer has made at least two items that the proceeds  will go directly to the walk." There is a walk pathway, but there is no scheduled walk for everyone. The notecard stated this was due to "the limitations and lag of SL" in addition to residents living in different time zones.


While paying a visit to the Expo near the end of opening day, I ran into Lilly Juno, the person to contact about information about the Buddy Walk. "This has been so great," she told me, "a lot of work, but love it. I worked hard to make sure we (had) a full house, and mo missing stores. … Designers help drive a lot of traffic."

Lilly told me they had raised 31,000 Lindens on the first day, "This event is so important. It's the first time we are doing it like an expo." She had been approached after the end of the 2012 Buddy Walk about the expo idea, "I told her I will do it id she didn't know how … I wanted to make sure we can get the awareness out there."  They had a number of musicians coming in to perform, such as Maximillion Klene and Edward Kyomoon.

Of the shops, "It's something very special to me to see so many great designers and some that step in when I need a few. I had a few designers that stepped in at the last minute to fill a few needed spots." All stores had at least two items in which 100% of the sales went to the walk, "Some are only doing two items, and then some are doing three, four, and six items. And then the rest of the store is 50% donations. And some stores are only (having) the donation vendors only. We only asked they make some of the vendors for donations."

Lilly added that there was an advertisement on SL TV for the Buddy Walk, on Pulse TV.

Lilly went on to say when the Buddy Walk for 2013 is finally done, she will be working for another event, "next month my event company is running the  Parkinson charity."

"There is much to say," Lilly told me of the Buddy Walk Expo, "so many have come together to make this event possible. When I was looking for designers, some people got some for me or IMed friends who knew some. They were all so great in helping me. This is my first huge event. I have hosted events before this, but nothing of this level, I am still learning. We would like to see feedback, and make this event better next year too."

"If you think about it, we are all the same in many ways, you, me, anyone. No matter what sex or race a person is, we all have feelings. We all have fears. We all have learning issues. Some are better at one thing or another, but we all can't be Beethoven. But we can stand up together to support what matters to each of us."

Renaissance Faire and Hunt

      The second Renaissance Faire and Hunt is going on through the month of December at Mieville Lovelace (21, 185, 23).  This hunt is great for anyone who likes medieval items or simply enjoys the thrill of a hunt.  You arrive on board a ship, and a foot bridge leads to the village.  The village is very creative and captures the mood and spirit of the hunt.    

      You will hear the sounds of village life—pigs grunting, chickens clucking and townspeople mingling about—as well as medieval music played on instruments like trumpets, harps, and bells.  

    Tents and vendor stalls circle around a center pond.  Paths lead off to the docks, a tree house, and a jousting area.  Many of the shops have freebies or reduced price specials.  Everything from small candles to huge sailing ships can be found here.  I especially like the vendor who posted the “Will Work for Chocolate” sign.   Me too!

     Perryn Peterson has done a great job organizing this hunt.  Perryn is known for the Historical Hunts, including my favorite, the steampunk ones.  A notecard states that there are over 100 shops participating.  I’ve only been able to visit a few so far, but they’ve been good ones.   I especially like the fact that there is a list of participating shops and LMs.  This allows you to continue the Hunt and return later to any spot where the item stubbornly refuses to be found.     
       In addition, Perryn has set up a mini-hunt in the village that is separate from the Renaissance Faire Hunt.  Fifteen acorns have been hidden very well around the village.  So far I’ve only found 3 of them, but I intend to keep looking.      

       There’s also a make-your-own pottery vendor in the village at Renaissance Faire Isle (70, 148, 21).   This is the first time I’ve seen this type of activity at a fair.  A couple of pottery wheels are set up where you can throw a pot for 25L.  If you don’t like your creation, you can re-set and try again.   You don’t pay until you make something you well like enough to buy.    

       There’s also a tree house that is reached by climbing a rope.  You have a choice of climbing speeds, too.  There’s a great view of the Faire from here.  Check out the inside, too.   

       A faire isn’t complete without food.   There’s a tavern in the round here with free food and drinks.   Lots of tables are available, too, for you and your friends to relax and rest up for the rest of the hunt.
